I've decided to turn my F4i into a streetfighter, but I'm a little unsure about what to do for handlebars. I want regular bars (not clipons), but I don't want to spent $400 for the LSL adapters. The idea here is to go low budget (I don't want to spend anything more than I make selling off my thrashed bodywork, headlight, etc.) plus I have a silly notion to put knobbies on it for a little off-road hilarity.
Plan A is to mount bar clamps directly to the triple clamp, but I'm worried that cast triple clamp isn't beefy enough to handle loads from direct-mount bar clamps, especially considering the stupidity that will ensue upon the project's completion. Perhaps something to spread the load a little will help (big washers or plates?) but I'm not sure. Does anyone have (or know of anyone with) experience here?
Plan B is to bolt a ~1/2" thick plate on the top of the triple and then bolt the bar clamps to that plate, but that idea more involved, and possibly overkill.
Plan C is to machine a whole new upper triple clamp, but I have neither the time, money, machinery, or knowledge to have any real chance at success here.
Are there any other [low budget] solutions?
