I need to get the internal O rings replaced in my spyder classic before I can play... When I plug in the CO2 it has a constant low hissing noise. :/

Woods, man, it's all about accuracy. Speedball, buy lot's (case lots, not "lots of") of paint!
Speedball's why I quit playing, it became more about how much paint you could get in the air at one time, rather than any tactical skill/accuracy(within reason).
I always meant to get back into it when they brought back the pump tourneys, but all my paintball bud's are in So-Cal. Still got my 'ol Bushmaster pump, need to get it runnin' again. (hell, still got 2 sheridan pgp pistols).
Started playing in '85, also went up against the Ironmen, my most memorable tournament shot evar is when I took out Dave Youngblood with a beat up Tippman whilst he and his team rained paint down upon us. (we sucked the rest of the day, and I shot out one of my own team from 200 yards away w/a snap shot, but hey, it was a damn good time!).
I'll have to think about this.........would have to cage it, as my son enjoys playing now.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Highway9rider- ive never heard that Dynasty's name used to be that. I thought they were made up of a bunch of different teams- like Dye Kids.
ive been playin since about '97-'98.
I dont play as much as i used to (every weekend), but still go a few times a year.
ive played my share of tournies. i normally just practice with tournie teams- Trainwreck and Momma's Boys old players mostly.
oh, and i love paintball stories. you guys crack me up :rofl
btw bear creek is lame. i guess if you wanna play woodsball...
go to WAP or Lodi for the insaneness.

humboldt ...yea...dynasty started as black diamonds...and the Lockheed Dragons always beat them in tournys...many times...but that was woods tournaments...the Dragons never made the leap to speedball.
Dynasty is normally all 19 to 25 yr olds recently. which is good. i started paintball at 19 myself. but dynasty started as a field team in the santa cruz mountains. as the name Black Diamonds.
best team back then was Ironmen and Dragons.....

That's kewl. What team were you on. I knew the Black Diamond way back, also particularly Chuck H. I also knew of the Apple Dumpling Gang from Soquel, Dog of War from Sacto, Fred from Constant Pursuit. I've been playing since 84 in the hill of Almaden at a field known as South Bay Ventures. In my semi-pro life I was of course with the old Outta Control Team out of Petaluma and we practice with Bob Long's Ironmen team at either Paintball Hill in Angwin or Mare Island. Darrel Trent was our coach at the 93 International Amateurs Championship to which we won first place and we were the first Amateur Factory Team for Bud Orr's Worr Game Products. I left OC in 94 to pursue to explore other California fields and the year after that left to finish college in Missouri to which I formed a local team called Team XL which we did okay. ;)
I would like to go but I have to teach that weekend. But I should be out soon. I either play at USPN or Extreme Paintball since it is close to my place.

Most except for the Carson location's I&I store is open. What killed it was the surge of online paintball stores and the number of inexpensive paintguns available that does get simpler and simpler to repair. The only places that I know off that can repair most higher end markers are KAPP, Extreme paintball, and one skips my mind from San Jose but he doesn't do a lot of them.

I have to disagree with the Lockheed Dragons in the mid-80's. Nationally I would say Ironmen and the All Americans. Locally I would say the Black Diamonds till they broke up and Chuck moved to the Mid-West to work for RP at that time. In Nor Cal?? well that is all debatable. I can be brash and say OC went to most or all IPPA and GWS sanctioned tournaments and placed very well or walked off with all but I won't. There are so many good teams locally and regionally I can't even remember them all but hey I still got some old Paintball News, PaintCheck, and APG rags to verify some of my infos. Out biggest rival was Dogs of War from Sacto aka Glenn P's team. The only time we all played together as a team along with some of the Ironmen (Phil and Darrel), Fred and some of his boyz from Constant Pursuit, and some others was during the California versus Nevada Big Game in Carson. That was a freaking crazy event it was so much fun!
PS: Only guy Ironmen and I'm glad he only played a short time was Carpet Bob.

yea i know all those teams and guys...Chuck Hendsch i knew when he first started reffing in santa cruz mountains till he became president of IPPA
...dragons you dont know em playing big tournys...like i said or thought i did...they didnt travel much or play big tournys but played up in sac and mare island etc...beat constant pursuit and ironmen in itty bitty fun tournys. just trophys. played the apple dumpling gang... all them. carpet bob on constant pursuit was an idiot. i played him and his gang all the time when he actually did wear carpet...those guys...had to watch contstant pursuit one ref to one player on their field...hilarious stuff.
but ive never played money tourneys. got over twenty trophys...most first place. most recent about two and a half years ago at WAP.
Never traveled out of state or big money tourneys. but always went head to head with the best in area. teams never took us serious. we used to play competitively in the bushmaster days. before electros and used CO2 bottles.
I never stopped playing but the team disbanded shortly after electros started popping up.
we won the Diablo Cup if you remember that also :)
I used to practice up at WAP against all the pro am teams with my group ...three years ago . we got pretty dang good. our first team would take first and second team would make finals in all the small tournys...thats not dragons......
as far as national teams i dont think all americans were around back in mid eighties? all i remember travelling from CA were ironmen and constant pursuit. aside from teams from LA.
now that i recall i think i flew on a plane once sitting next to the captain of outa control??? odd coincidence that. never did look him up though.at least i think it was outa control

Humbolt, you're right about speedball, there's still strategy etc. involved, but it (speedball) sure put a crimp on the smaller 'buddy' teams $-wise trying to keep up w/the sponsored teams in paint quantity alone........to me it just became more about quantity over quality, and I lost interest. Highway9Rider - I am glad you feel the same way about Carpet Bob. I am quite sure both Bobs separated because of his arrogance. I remember his cheating ways but have not seen him for like decades.
Humbolt: No not Tim unfortunately he must have been recruited when I left in 95. Only Tim I knew was Tim Chavez along with 2 of the other Chavez. After the original OC disbanded in 96-97 I believe Chris Higgins took over the OC team as captain but last time I met up with the new team they were more organized and better equipped.
TeeSnob: :twofinger "Check it buddy!"
I have been having the urge to set my electronic marker aside to return back to the old pump gun days and do some tourney. You sure can't beat the smell of trees and the forest when you play traditional woods paintball. SFCBR- i definitely hear what you are saying.
but since i started playing before all that, i got used to playing "hopper-ball"
= you only bring a hopper full of paint, no packs. you shoot what you have, and then youre S.O.L.
so now with all these guns shooting 20bps+, ive learned to make it count. i play mid-front, and have never, EVER, gone through more than a hopper + 2 pods (so maybe 450-500 rnds/game) even when we play tournaments. my back guys are dropping 1000+ rnds of paint per game, and i would get just as many guys out with an extra pod.
you know what drives me even more crazy than the "spray and prey" method?
CHEATING! thats partly why i stopped playing. all these kids who are starting out right now think its part of the game cuz if you play pro, you cheat, and thats all they see.
ive talked to several people who started playing within the past 3 years, and its completely justifiable to them. "if i shoot you but you are quick and sly enough to wipe it, then i have to give props to you" ive heard them say.
ummm, no, wrong. the entire point of this fucking game is to shoot the other person out. so when you wipe the hit, you are completely going against what the game is all about.
its sad, but its true.....

Today's game you see 12 year olds with $1K Eclipse Evo just go to SCP. Youngs kids wants to be identified as a "Pro" and be someone. This is more of an evolution of the game. I do not see paintball ever being an olympic sport which people have been trying for a long time so this is nothing new. As far as cheating in paintball this is one of those sports that can provide the player an edge (see Barry Bonds :laughing). I was a certified NAPRA back in the days and as I watch refs today do their jobs I can honestly say I am pretty disappointed in both Rec and Pro level. Being a paintball ref is like being a Tennis judge and a Wrestling Ref in one. You gotta get in there, take the hits, watch the pinned player not stand 10~15 ft away to and stare at him. A "cheating" move can really be very subtle.

I hear ya, before calling it a day from the sport (combination of interest waning/marriage/kid/expenses), I used to do the same, bring limited paint, and gain some serious satisfaction by ending the game w/paint left, and folks taken down by some good 'ol straight shooting
you know what drives me even more crazy than the "spray and prey" method?

Definately! When we first started chasing each other around the woods with splatmasters and sheridans, everybody was dead on honest about hits, up to and often including congratulatory shouts/curses after a great shot took you out ("you SOB, you can't even SEE me, and you lit me up!! Great shot!").
Don't see that much anymore amongst the current gen. of players..........unfortunate!!

Back in the day playing paintball aka Survival Game was played under the honor system. One thing that surely has changed and allowed for the "cheating" to grow is in the paint. In the mid-80's RP Scherer and Nelson Paint the largest paintball makers began to change the formula moving from an oil based to a water soluble paint. The oil base ones leaves a fresh mark that is hard to wipe out.
