On my son's 50 it appears that I would need some kind of key to adjust the mixture. I can see the screw but it has no indentions for a screw driver on the head. It appears to not be perfectly circular with a flat end at one side. Does any one have any ideas other than getting an '05 carb (what I found searching on the net).

Thanks

I have not seen the new carbs on the CRF, but years ago I had to drill out a cover that hid the fuel adjustment screw on the carb to my RZ350.

I got a small drill bit and barely drilled deep enough to make a small hole. I then inserted a small screw and yanked the cover off. Once it was off, the carb looked more like a carburetor and less like an invention from C.A.R.B.

Not sure, at all, if this is your problem but it is the first thing that popped into my mind when I read your post.

not sure what it is called, it is a special tool. D-type something or other. you can usually get one in a jet kit for a honda (all honda's have this adjuster for the mixture screw) call your local shop and see if they have one laying around.

The screw (internally is the same) but on the older to 2004 models there is a straight slot screw driver top.
You can grind with a thing cutting wheel a slot to make it adjustable...
The new carb also has another downer... Not only is the pilot not tunable either is the needle...

On my newer 50;s I cut the slot (after i work it out the first time) and I put the older needle, needle clip and seat so you have a little tunability...
