OK, so I gots this motorcycle-curious friend who lives back east (a transplanted Angeleno, like me), but will have a 20-hour layover in the 'sco. Looks like the party will start around lunchtime, and end around 9:00 p.m. Where should we go (to eat and drink), what should we see, who wants to come with?

Drop him oof in the Castro, then come back for him in the morning. He'll either be dead, or have the most amazing story to tell that he will never forget. :p

well since you called IT THE FUCKING SCO!!!!:mad why don't you both suck down some Burgers and Budweiser at The Burger Joint in the International Terminal foodcourt. If you get bored you can stumble around the SFMoMA Store and Sephora, Also in the airport.
You Knob:rant
Had you referred to The City by a proper term, I would say have your Buddy BART to 16th and Mission and alternate hopping Taqueria's and Bars until you end up at Benders at 19th and South Van Ness. barfers are bound to show up.

It's not just me mang !! (http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=228224)
But really If I was In your situation I would do the mission. The Easy BART to and From SFO is great. Plus cheap eats and some character that that the typical tourist won't get from Pier39/Northbeach/Union Square.

she's staying on O'Farrell (or o'fuckin'farrell, or whatever the locals call it), and other friends are coming in via BART, and The Irish Bank is already on the list, so we're going to be in that general area most of the time.

from the Irish Bank go through the Gates of Chinatown and stay on Grant till you hit Washington. Take note of the Buddha Bar , then turn left and get a bowl of noodles the size of your head for super cheap at Sam Woh's (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS246&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=sam+wo&near=San+Francisco,+CA&fb=1&view=text&latlng=37795130,-122406720,12305118635484707699) (on Washington between Grant and Stockton) It's been There for more than 100 years. It's authentic old school Chinese grub. I would stick the the veggie dishes as they are fairly indescriminent about which parts of the critter of choice end up in the pot.
Back to the Buddha Bar (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS246&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=buddha+bar&near=San+Francisco,+CA&fb=1&view=text&latlng=37795168,-122406451,269018873588642469) for some beer. It's a cool place but they only have bottles, that gets old fast.
Press on up Grant till you hit Columbus and Grab a beer (and a kick ass Pittsburgh Style all-in-one sandwich if you skipped the noodles) at Giordano Bros. (http://www.geocities.com/jeffjordan_sf/) adjacent to the Stinking Rose. Press further yet on Grant and hit Maggie McGarrys (http://www.maggiemcgarrys.com/) for the Tuesday night trivia specials and when that gets boring see who's playing for free at Grant and Green (http://www.myspace.com/grantandgreensf) and since you're so close you might as well shoot down Green st to Golden Boy Pizza (http://www.yelp.com/biz/golden-boy-pizza-sodinis-original-san-francisco) where they sell garlic and clam pizza by the slice.
And how can you come to The City and not leave with a belly full of garlic and clam pizza :teeth
