A couple of years ago I was using Turbo Tax, but when I got to the end they wanted something like $50 to file my taxes. I canceled, and trolling the web I went, and I ended up using some no name website that did it for $10.
Now mind you I'm only filing a 1040ez. Anything beyond that, and turbo tax is very useful.
In typical format I couldn't find the website I used for 05/06 so trolling I go again.
This year I used
http://www.my1040ez.com/ for federal.
Nothing fancy, simple interface, and when I was done it filed the federal for free.
It asked if I wanted to file state taxes for $10, nope.
California has a free service for online tax filing.
http://www.ftb.ca.gov/online/calFile/index.asp

So here we are at the end of January and all my taxes are done, and I didn't pay anything.
Come on refund, racing season is already upon us.

I'm just as cheap of a bastard as anyone.. However I won't be filing my federal taxes through that site. Just the name alone, and it being a co-lo website reaks of possible security issues. (PS: I don't E-File at all).

Any State Farm customers can get TurboTax Deluxe for free (login to your state farm account, there should be a link on the left). I've been using that deal for the last 3yrs and have been very pleased (despite the whole having to pay taxes thing)

Damn! I wish I saw this before spending $40 for CD at WalMart.

Anyhow, I was happy to do it on my own this year as I've been paying over $200 getting it done professionally.

I too had thought about using those free sites, but was concerned about security of personal info (SSN, etc.).

Can't wait to get my mula! :Party
