Anyone have any pics of how to properly wire a hose clamp?
I've seen two different methods, but it's not clear to me how either are actually done. The first method seems to wrap around the head of the hose clamp screw. The second seems to have untwisted wire criss-crossing around the hose.

if the hose clamp has two open channels on either side of the female screws (where the screw head screws in) then run safety wire through them from behind and set the screw head at right angles, so the wire comes out of one side, fits intoo the screw head, and goes in the other side and then gets twisted where it exits the clamp.

here is a good article on techniques.

That's a great article.

Actually, this is the pic that prompted my question. The pic doesn't show what the ends are attached to. It almost looks like it never touches the actual hose clamp.

The second method simple loops the wire around the hose clamp crossing around it. Nothing special, nothing attaching to.
The first method kind of loops around the screw area (through the slot), then twists a length of the wire so it loops around the hose, then finally finish it off by twisting a loop around the screw again.
The second is the more secure method, as it keeps the screw part from backing out.
AFM doesn't require this, but WSMC does. I know WSMC had a flyer showing their prefered method some time ago, don't remember where it is on the web. I am sure if you search here in the racers section it has been linked to before.

Ahh...okay. I think I see what you're saying. The #2 way is what I was after and it looks like I should be able to get that done pretty easily.

for #2, make sure loop around the clamp twice, and cross those loops to it "holds" the clamp on the hose. As I said, this really isn't the best method (and it's pointed out in the article) since it doesn't keep the actual tensioning device (the screw) from backing out, the clamp from getting loose and the hose from coming off under pressure.
Honestly, if your going to even spend the time/energy to put wire around your hose clamps do it so it's performing a purpose, and run the wire through the slot in the screw (this is of course of you have a flat slot and not a Phillips head screw).

out of curiosity, would it be acceptable, if you have the phillips heads, to cut a couple of the ends of the + open to have an open flat slot to wire?

here's what someone did for me a few years ago for track days. they wired it through the excess end coming out of the clamp. seems to keep it tight, doesn't seem like the screw could come out. K&N still seems more secure to me :)
