say my laptop has built in wireless...then i slap on an additional pcmcia wireless adapter. i'm not going to get double the speeds i presume, so is there any benefit to using two network adapters at the same time?

The only advantage is being able to access two different networks at the same time. If it is for the interweb, then no, there is no advantage.

I know you can band two modems together to get higher bandwidth, but never tried it with a wireless network card.

Theorically, you'll never max out the speed of the wireless connection, compared to the speed your pulling things off the internet.

aka: the extra device will do nothing but generate more heat, and drain your battery faster. :laughing

you could advertise it as the the Tim "Tool Time" Taylor upgrade. more is better. *grunt grunt grunt*

while you're at it, strap a chainsaw motor to your hdd. more rpms = better seek/read speeds, right? :teeth

(just teasing)

I always thought you couldn't do this (without special software/hardware)
Are you talking about a computer with 2 nics connected to 2 modems?

I was talking about two teleco modems can be connected to two phone lines, which would double your bandwidth. It's a poor man's ISDN. :nerd

You could do Aggregate DSL, but after buying a box to do it and paying for two DSL lines, it would be cheaper to buy a higher bandwidth DSL. Kentrox, makes a multiplexer for DSL, which is similar to the IMA T1 boxes I used for CSAA, to multiplex 8 T1's.
