Can/should i uninstall the old windows security updates? I've got them for the past 2 years, and they are filling up a lot of space.

Wrong Way

Assuming you are talking about Windows XP, there are about 90 updates beyond a fresh SP2 install.

Not sure why you are worried about space. I don't think windows XP uses more than 12 gigs of space. A 40gig partition should be OK for standard use and more if you are into other specialty apps like Adobe or gaming. Also, downloading a bunch of freeware or shareware will disrupt your OS. So you want to be selective on these applications you install rather than trying to be selective on security updates from microsoft.

If you are running out of space you should look at upgrading your hard drive. It is always a good practice to place your data files on a seperate partition/drive if at all possible. It just makes it easier to track your data and upgrade to larger drives.

That is always a good idea.

Although, DO NOT UNINSTALL the packages. In the C:\Windows directory you will find alot of folders that look like this: $NtUninstallKB941644$

As long as you have had NO issues since a last update, delete ALL of them, except the $hf_mig$ folder.

That should clear up enough space for ya.
