Well... not sure what kind of Mad Max outfit you're sporting, but by the time you're shooting sparks off your gloves or your shoulders, it's safe to assume you've got bigger problems... :laughing:laughing
The rule is there to stop the squids from using knee pucks or toe sliders with titanium bits in them which are designed to shoot off sparks - they're very distracting to other riders and makes them think you're dragging hard parts and about to bin it. If the sparks are coming off your gloves and shoulders, they're already well aware of the fact that you just binned it... ;)

As I've said before without seeing the suit in person I cannot give you a yea or a nay. Take a pic and send it to tech@afmracing.org.

Ok, first off... assuming you're at least 5 years older than my 6th grade daughter, can you knock it off with the "rulz" and "b4" and all that nonsense?? Sorry to take it out on you, but that $hit is driving me insane these days... :twofinger
As long as the ti pieces are not going to contact the track surface under normal riding conditions, I can assure you tech will not hassle you. However, something to consider is the fact that all those metal parts will HEAT UP if you're sliding down the track (remember all the friction=heat in science class?) and then metal transfers heat really well... so if any of those metal parts then get close to your skin, you may just have some permanent reminders of the crash BRANDED into you!! I think most racing safety gear manufacturers stay away from metal parts these days... and no, ICON bling doesn't count! :laughing
Best of luck this season!

Probably a stupid question, but so I'm crystal clear....I assume this rule is referring to the Ti toe sliders on these??

I don't know about that. The way it's worded, they could probably ding you for it if you spend a lot of time on your elbows aand shoulders. :laughing
They probably wrote it that way on purpose.

That was last season. This season they will no longer be allowed, I know rulebooks haven't gone out yet but I can assure you that metal will not be allowed.

Not to mention that passing inspection may mean the inspector recognizes you and assumes you know the rule book cause you have been around forever, a common mistake.

Why would a company like Oxtar even put metallic sliders on boots that people will most likely be using for racing? It's not like the AFM is the only club that has this rule..

So, boots would be easy to take care. Well, maybe not. The allen screws that hold on my toe sliders are ground to a point where an allen key no longer fits. Not being able to race with my gloves that cost me close to $300 is lame. My backup gear is not nearly as safe as my Dianese equipment. Maybe I'll go through tech with backup gear and race with my Dianese equipment. :teeth

^^haha i dont know if that will work, i was super bummed when the new rule came out, and it said no metal, i got a killer deal on all my gear before i herd about it, but i trust Ed and he says just no knees, boot, or elbows and ill be ok.

What does having metal on the knuckles of the glove have to do with them being safe or not? I understand sparks from toe sliders may make other riders a bit nervous.
Let's see...new, high quality boots and gloves ~$700 or getting fined a couple times during the year. I'll take my chances...:p

Hey John, being DQ'd from DL shouldn't be so bad! :twofinger :rofl
seriously, maybe you can drill the screw a little bit and use and easy out or a dremel wheel and cut a screw driver slot into them?
what are you going to be racing this year?

DL= dead last?
If I take them off, I don't think Dianese has plastic ones that fit the Axial Race boots. It's carbon fiber underneath and will be destroyed first time they scrape.

I'm curious about the gloves, too. In my mind, metal on the gloves is not big deal because the only time you're dragging your knuckles is when you are crashing, and then there's a lot of other things throwing out sparks.

You fartknocker, quit being a dillhole and fix your gear or I'll come to your house and stick pink flamingos in your lawn! :laughing
Gloves are not an issue. For the boots, get a hold of Jeff from Asphalt and Gas and he'll set you up with toe sliders. If I see you shooting sparks off your Mr. Fancy-pants boots, make sure you have your checkbook handy... :D

There is only enough room on my front lawn for the 3 pink flamingos I already have and the 47 gnomes. It's a fabulous collection. A picture of my favorite below. He would look good on your neighbors lawn with a special note from you attached. :twofinger
