Everytime someone from the Vampires MC posts something (and they absolutely should) Firefox and/or Google give me pop up ads to this crap:
"Meet Gothic Guys - Free Goth Community!
Welcome to GothScene.com. Dedicated to bringing gothic guys together in a totally free atmosphere. Email other members, IM other members, or add them to your blackbook. Meet hot sexy goth guys who have intersts in the gothic lifestyle. Many members love techno, punk rock, and goth music.
We pride ourselves in having real gothic personals where real gothic guys are looking to meet other like minded goth friends. Online dating for people into the goth scene has never been easier. "
http://www.gothscene.com/?s=free_db_search&aff_id=google&aff_pg=1&tag=goth_guys
And I don't want to meet goth guys in my area. It's like the spam with the ad for breast enhancers, "Meet men with bigger breasts." :boobies I don't want to meet men with bigger breasts. No sir, I don't like it.

Strange, I use firefox and don't have any popups. Hell, I don't even see ads 99% of places - including here.

Could be worse. You should see the ads that come up when somebody posts "PIITB."

It's not firefox or google, they don't use pop-ups. You need to stop downloading crap from Limewire and other peer-to-peer networks. Your system is polluted with a ton of spyware and ad-ware. Get AVG anti-spyware, run it and you will be shocked at what you have.

I clicked on this thread only because it was moved. But I don't know what's funnier: the post itself, or the fact that the thread was moved to GeekSpeak and not to the KitchenS :))
So.. now for more seriousness... it's definitely NOT the Firefox... it *could* be google but I'm not sure how they link barf with your other websites. It could be more what "Spiffy" said--who knows what kind of popup-infested Software you have downloaded on your computer.... I'm amazed in fact that you have such popups.
Do you have Google desktop search installed? (Not sure if that one can have similar effects)

Its spyware and has nothing to do with firefox or google. I work in the IT lab for a major SV company and I see this every single day. Quit downloading porn and pirated software and you will never have this problem.

Apologies are in order, I've identified the offending technology:
It has nothing to do with the Vampires MC (to whom I humbly and sincerely apologize), BARF, it has nothing to do with Firefox, or downloading porn (I don't do it. Honest, honey, that's what they call hijacking or something. It's from the car sites. I don't even think those women are attractive. No, I'd NEVER want to do that with you. Never.)
It's because I had two screens open, one to BARF and one to my Gmail account. For some reason, a friend's email resulted in Gmail ads for goth, "old guys rule" and a "six sigma" seminar. I can't figure out why, there just aren't the right keywords in his message. And, I don't know how I clicked on the goth ad, maybe because my touch pad is too touchy.
So, let's see, sorry to BARF for posting in the wrong place, sorry to the Vampires MC for blaming them, sorry to Firefox, which I'm pretty happy with. Sorry to Google, and props to Gmail 99% of the time. And props to you guys.
Anyway, the whole goth dudes thing just doesn't interest me, but it was pretty funny, yeah?
Oh, and I use NAV and Norton Anti Spyware or whatever they call it. I'd guess my machine is as clean as the average user's.

So is this what one would call self-ownage :confused
Try running http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ once in a while too, great, free, online app that catches things Norton doesn't. Download AdBlock Plus for Firefox as well.

I don't know if it's that. It's more like saying "My Bad."
Or in Berkeley, if you are the City Council and send a letter to the Marine recruiting station and say, "You are not welcom in Berkeley," and then you realize what an ass that makes you sound like, you try to take it back and say, "If you make a mistake, like we did, you should admit it and correct it and move on."
