+1 Terrible anti-virus programs. I use AVG Free. You can easily set it and forget it. Automatically updates daily, and scheduled scans.:thumbup (You are limited as to the amount of scheduled test in the free version FYI)

I wonder how recent that review is?

I installed it, changed the update and full scan schedules and forgot about it. Each boot, a small window pops up telling me that status of the last update (it's set to download updates at boot) and thats about it. It does have quite a few options, but I just have regular updates set and a weekly full scan set.

i've had both mcafee and norton. I loved macafee, and never had a problem with it. I've always had problems with norton however...my dad just bought the new version, and i tried to instal it, but i couldnt get it to stop saying "there had been a problem" so i just unistalled it.

I've been using AVG for the last few years. No probs with it ever.

I would say at the least... AVG Free, or Avast! are your best bet. Avast! is more bloated then AVG, but I've never had an issue with it.

i would hypothesize that since so many other people use AVG and have NOT had this problem that there must be some unique program running on your puter that AVG didn't 'play well' with.

to add to my first response: paying for any sort of anti-virus protection doesn't make sense to me with the various free and effective options available out there. AVG isn't the only option. look for others and give em a whirl.
