Well here it is 2008, and I thought I was done with racing when I quit in '05. I did a lot of dirt riding since then, and last year picked up an SV650 as a trackday toy/streetbike, and I honestly haven't missed racing at all. I was so burned out when I stopped, didn't even feel like waking up on a Saturday morning for AFM practice.

Yet when I heard about this new 650 Prod class, which is tailor-made for the bone stock SV I already owned, it seemed like too much of a coincidence to pass up. As if the racetrack was calling me back, hah. So after some thought I decided to race again.

I been working like a dog the past month, crazy busy, so instead of waiting til the last moment to get the bike ready and running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I had Bud at http://www.budandersonsraceprep.com/ prep my bike with the racebike basics of safety wire, bellypan brackets for my nekkid SV, take off the charcoal can smog crap, steel brake lines, coolant flush, etc. He saved me a TON of time and Bud does kick-ass work at a very competetive price when you think how annoying it is to drill/wire a bike and how much time it takes (especially when I don't own a real drill). He has a real nice setup and it seems quite popular judging by all the racebikes he's prepping for other AFMers. Don't wait, prep your bike or take it to Bud, the season is fast approaching!

So I pick up the SV today from Bud, then decide to ride my V-Strom 650 over to Cycle Gear to get some number plates. I'm sitting at a stop light in Concord when somebody in a truck behind me toots the horn and waves. I turn around and it's AFM #1 Dave Stanton. I tell ya, it's like one racing coincidence after another, and they are all good omens!! I just had to laugh in my helmet about how cool it feels to be thinking about racing once again. :thumbup

On the SV the rear cam chain tensioner takes as long to safety wire as the rest of the bike. :laughing

I just got my shock back from Lindemann, sweet job, feels good, works good.
