You'd figure if the split was done in a safe manner. I have in the past with no repercussions.

I've ridden past cops and even followed moto cops to reach/pass an accident scene.
And if you're talking a LEO in a cager, like he's gonna catch up. :rofl

I dont do anything questionable in front of LEO's
Legal this, Illigal that.
We read all the time here of how LEO thought one was unsafe or told him something was illegal when it wasnt.
If they want to get you, theyll get you, and then you have to deal with it.
Just forgoe the opportunity until you pass him.

All the time, whether their in a patrol car or motor. So long as you lane "share" and keep the speed reasonable, you shouldn't worry about it.

Lane SHARING, ie two vehicles in the same lane, is legal. Straddling two lanes is not.
I've shared lanes past plenty of LEOs without issue - I try to do it at a speed that won't piss them off too much though.

I've been lucky enough to always have motor cops around me when splitting. One time i kept hearing a horn beeping and a chp bike pops up behind me. at first i thought it was the cop so i slowed down to and then he went whizzing by me so i figured it was a car trying to tell me there was a cop coming up haha

Just be aware of K-9 units. The officer driving the cage may be ok with it, but the back seat occupant can bark out his objections as you putt on by...

why would they? last time i did was getting on the fishhook in Santa Cruz. CHP driver actually pulled over to give me more room. If you aren't doing anything wrong and you know it, chances are they won't care.

+1. A few years back I was sharing on 280 around Sand Hill, a woman in a car pulled into my path to stop me. There was a CHP cruiser on the side of the road handing out a ticket. The cop went back to his cruiser, got on the loudspeaker, and said "move aside and let the motorcycle pass!" :thumbup
I did have a SJPD cruiser try and block me from sharing on 87, I managed to get around him, sent a letter to the Chief, haven't had any problem since.:twofinger

Lane SHARING, ie two vehicles in the same lane, is legal. Straddling two lanes is not.
What exactly do you mean by "straddling two lanes?" You have two wheels; they are in line with each other; aren't they going to be either in one lane or the other and not in both lanes at the same time? I'm not busting your chops, I'm just curious.

Remember it's SHARING and not SPLITTING...riding on the line is illegal.

Straddling is riding on the line, like mikhail mentioned.

On one occasion, I had a CHP cruiser turn on his signal and start to move over on me as I approached.
He finally decided to turn his head as he hit the botts dots, saw me waiting patiently behind him, canceled his signal and moved out of the way for me to pass.

Here is a great thread that covers the differences.:thumbup

I had CHP motor lane sharing behind me a while back- I gave him a hand signal if he wanted to pass and I looked back and I saw a thumbsdown. He followed me for a few miles in traffic and I was praying that some @$$hat listener of the woody show on live 105 would attempt to take me out.:laughing

Splitting (staddling) lanes is illegal. I would not suggest you do any illegal act in the plain view of a police officer, in a cage or not.
Please read up in the (sticky) lane sharing thread if you have questions about lanesharing.
