Following up on this thread (http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=235617) in the General forum, what should you do if an unmarked car attempts to pull you over and you don't feel safe stopping?

I typically don't think twice about stopping, but I had an ex-GF who was paranoid about being stopped by an unmarked car in a remote area (possibly because she was from Arkansas, home of the "blue light rapist"). I've heard all kinds of suggestions, many of which sound like BS: it's legal not to pull over as long as you drive to a police station, it's legal not to pull over until you get to a gas station or other well-lighted area, it's legal to call 911 and get confirmation that the unmarked car is legit before you pull over, etc.

Any LEO opinions on this one? What's really legal? Snopes.com suggests pulling over, but keeping car doors locked and your windows no more than cracked until you can verify the officer's identity. That seems like a legitimate suggestion for car drivers. Dunno what you do if you're on a bike...

Basically, your options are to proceed to a public location while obeying the speed limit. You can call 911 and make them aware of your intentions. You can ask for ID, and/or get a marked car to show. If you're a solo female driver, they will probably understand. You'll likely have to explain yourself regardless.

Once they have shown ID, you should comply with their instructions.

I think a male can be hurt just as much as female by someone impersonating a cop.

I hope that since I'm male, if I do something like this - it won't bite my ass due to the fact I lack ovaries.

Find a location that is well lit (if at night) and has CCTV cameras like a gas station or a place w/ lots of people around.

Acknowledge the Officer's presence through hand signals and your intent to stop. Drive at the speed limit or slightly slower, until you find the best place to stop.

Or, drive at twice the speed of sound and GTFO

you should read up on CA TITLE 13.

can't remember the page or paragraph, but technically all an officer needs to pull you over is a SINGLE STEADY RED LIGHT, that meets or exceeds class B, and a 100 watt class A siren.

Everything else is flash....or shall I say officer safety.

If there is no STEADY RED, keep driving....and call 911:thumbup
