Fast in a straight line, can't turn worth shit. I think the term has evolved to include a much larger audience. Think 'R1'. :twofinger

here's a good one...

21. What is a squid?

SQUID is rider-speak for the maniacs we see riding motorcycles in tank-tops, shorts, and flip flops, generally revving their engines at stoplights and darting in and out of traffic like homicidal mutations of armadillo-possums. These are the people who frequently drive up our insurance premiums and populate injury statistics such as the Hurt Report. They are the orthopaedists and skin-graft surgeon's best friend and the motorcycling public images' worst enemy. The name originated from combining the words, "Squirrely Kids."

say it 10 times fast, it kinda sounds like squids,

i heard it came from poeple saying things like "he crashed so bad that he looked like a squid on the road"

Anyone that gives our sport a bad name. A person can have full leathers and still be a squid if he acts irresponsibly.

Like the guy that just bought a brand new bike, has very little "real" skill, and likes to rev his engine infront of people even though he has a stock pipe. Spending $11,000 on a bike doesnt get you automatically admired.

It usually comes down to opinion, but most will agree that anyone that acts like a dumbass is a squid.

http://motorcycles.about.com/library/glossary/bldef079.htm says:

Definition: Have you seen a young rider on a sportbike who does not wear protective clothing, darts into and out of traffic at high speed, refuses to take any motorcycle training, and in general, acts like he/she doesn't know what they're doing? You've seen a squid.

Wow guess im a squid.... then again i just got my very first bike. And yah I dont really have much skills. But heck live and learn right. also im getting pretty freaking sick and tired of people telling me im going to Die on that bike. I feel just as long as a person rides within his ablilites and watches out for idiots on the raod you should be good for the most part. All i need to do now is improve on those skills.

My question is how do you ride within your skills while trying to push those skills you do have to become a beter rider?

take the "If you are a Squid Test"

http://www.goingfaster.com/shadow/squidif.html

one thing i'm laughing is

"You Might be a Squid If:
* You Own a Steering Dampener" :twofinger

since when does owning a steering dampener makes you a squid? does it intentionally means that because you own a steering dampener, that you always do wheelies?

You guys are dumb. Just because someone rides without protective gear he is a squid? Hell, during some hot summer days i jump on my bike with nothing more than my lid and boardshorts and I'd feel sorry for the person who walked up to me and called me a squid. Laterz.

I'd still call you a squid... and if you were dumb enough to try and out-ride me dressed like that, I would have no sympathy if you went down...

It's just flat out common sense.

I'd also call u a squid. I don't care what u think, but always wear something protective even on a hot day. Better safe than sorry. After watching Judgement day and other stunt videos on the net, I'm always wearing something more than just shorts and a t-shirt.

you can argue forever about what a squid is. But the main characteristics of a squid is someone who can not control their bike properly, who has no common sense when it comes to riding their bikes, and someone who should not be on a bike. Now how you choose to interpret that, i leave up to you. Like Ravi said... onto each his own. If you go down gear-less..i should hope you learn if you survive. If you dont learn...then ill enjoy hearing you recounting how you got each scar on your body. If you do wheelies through traffic, and you eat it, we will all say " awwwwwwww damnnnn..." then reprimand you. Deal with it. thats what you get for being a dumbass. If you pulled it off..you better have gotten it on tape. show it off, and then deal with the scolding. :twofinger . Thats what being a part of a group is. People looking out for each other. if you cant deal with the fact that this messageboard consists of experienced and inexperienced riders, and their diffrent views, then i suggest you find another forum that advocate your style of reckless riding. One such board is the SBF board. the harder you crash, the more popular you become.. HAHAHAHA!! Just kidding SBF. :P

Whatever. Riding is about riding, not about how much leather you have on. And if I ever took a spill without gear then i wouldn't blame anyone but myself. So to all you haters out there that see someone riding shirtless and think "he's a squid" just worry about yourself and not him okay cuz not everyone likes wearing leathers all the time and if you think thats squidly then you're the one with issues. Laterz.

I'd heard two other definitions:

1. From a paramedic I knew - he said that fallen bikers who weren't wearing protective clothing resembled dead squid because they were all squidgy and bloody after a crash. Nice.

2. Other definition;
Survival Quotient Unknown Imminent Death

I'm responsible though, but my mom says no matter how experienced you are...there is always a stupid driver out there....

Every group has a name or a way of defining those who know what their doing from those who dont. Dirt bikers have what they call pigeons. This forum has newbies. I think import guys call em fabs(i think thats right?). If you dont know what a squid is youre probably one. I like to call em uncle Bobs. Everyone seems to have an uncle "Bob". Bob used to ride now bob has his lunch threw a straw. I get soo sick of hearing these stories from people when they find out I ride. Oh Im off the topic. Shit its 3am I need some sleep

:wow :twofinger :laughing

......
...actually, the R1 does cause me a bit of problem - sometimes the strap on my sandals gets caught in the shifter... and once my halter top got tangled up in the handlebars when I was waving at some hotties in front of the high school...( it was just lucky for me that I didn't have my helmet on, or I would never have been able to untangle that strap )...

... gonna get a new, louder pipe and I think that will take care of
the above problems... it's all good....
