Are there going to be any rule changes in regards to the size of numbers for the AFM?
I was about to buy a set of numbers at cycle gear the other day, but I thought I read somewhere in here about possible rule changes.
Anyone have the inside scoop or do I have to wait for the 08 rule book in the mail?

Got mine today.

The rulebook says one number facing back ama style is ok, if you can fit it.

in that case if you have a single rear facing number on the tail section, is it ok to mount the transponder on the number?
I was under the impression you have to mount it on top of the tail.

You need to be careful with that, too close to any metal (like a muffler) and the transmitter doesn't work too good.
I mount mine under the tail at Sears and BW but need to move it above for T-Hill on my 05 GSXR 1000 since the muffler is on the right side, as is the antenna for lap times. The muffler interferes with the signal but only on that track.

i think you should be ok. its far enough from the can BUT carbon fiber messes up the signal too. I had a carbon tail section last year and it took like 3 rounds for them to tell me that I had to raise the transponder like 2 inches + off the tail cause the carbon absorbed the signal.

Maybe it's just perspective, but those front numbers don't look legal to me.

You can fit the transmitter and the numbers without having to go over eachother.

I hardly have enough room on the tail section for the numbers, especially with an 3/4" between them.
Hopefully they will pass tech

[QUOTE=firemedic2706;3774696]This bike has the transponder attached to it under the tail section.
did you mount it to the under plate or on the angle part near the tip?
I dont have a bag or container for mine so the tip, on the top would be a huge PIA to zip tie since its all the way in the back and I'd have to take the tail off just to get to it
there's a rule with numbers: Don't ask, don't tell. Just get them close and show up to tech on the first day. Once you start asking, "is this far enough apart?", and "is this visable?", you're bound to have to change something.

I would recommend buying a pouch from the benevolent booth at the first race. Makes changing the battery much easier!:thumbup

I think that there closer to $20. I run one, they work assume, but I have lost timers before. NO fault of the pouch--the zip times just seem to randomly jettison--prolly doesnt help that my exhaust bakes them:rolleyes:rolleyes
