My laptop I just bought (Dell Latitude d-520) will not let me run Internet Explorer. I use Firefox right now but need explorer to allow Active X. Keeps saying you do not have permission to access blah blah

Anyone have any ideas....I am very frustrated.

IE is part of Windows, so you don't need to install it.

Go to your Internet Security settings and change them to Medium. You also may have an issue with your Firewall if that doesn't work.

Also, you can load Active X to Firefox if you want to keep using it.

You can load the IE Tab Extension add-on, which will allow you to load any IE specific web page. That's what I use, and which will load any ActiveX page.

No plug in available for newer versions of firefox ie. mine

When I try to start up explorer I get:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=74005 on this server.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache Server at go.microsoft.com Port 8100

I think some Malware is causing my computer to logon to wrong Port (wtf is port 8100) but when i check my comp it comes up clean.

Will this tab extension help?

It will emulate IE in a Firefox tab, so it will display Active X. You can configure it to emulate IE when you go to a specific website, otherwise you just Right-Click on the page and select "View page in IE tab".

Active X is crappy code that allows Malware on your PC, which if you have it, you probably got in from running Active X in IE.

This is a special deelio that will run the first time you launch internet explorer. My guess is, there is a problem with the Microsoft server. A less likely problem is that the user profile you are using is not a power user or admin, but this makes very little sense. You should be able to change most I.E settings with standard user permisions.

I think you can bypass this (settings webpage) by going into your internet options and making some choices on the General, Security, and Privacy tabs under Internet Properties.

If the link was working this is what it would ask. It wants to let you know that you have some options. If you change some settings by right clicking IE from the start menu or going into Internet settings from the control pannel, you can bypass running this "runonce" web page and your home page will launch like normal.

Then again, I am drunk and I am going off of memory, so....
