You might want to try 160 rear on 4.5-5.0 before jumping to 180 rear on 5.5. I also got a call today from someone looking to squeeze a 16.5 rear on a SV650 - I don't know, but to me that sounds like too much tire and waaay too heavy of a tire for a little SV. With 75hp I think it's quite a task to even break loose a 160 rear, but with 16.5 I don't even like to put it on 130hp 600cc bikes unless they're really, really built (like AMA FX bikes). 16.5 front is nice even on 650 twins (and expensive!) but new 17" slicks and new 17" DOT fronts are really, really close and you don't need to buy extra wheels. ymmv...

Hey Brian, the guy who won the class this year was running a stock rim. A previous class winner ran a 155 rear. You don't need a larger tire for an SV. The 160 rears, especially in todays compounds, offer more than enough grip and contact patch.

Yep. I like the big tire, but I have gone just as fast on the little one.

I got a set of Pirelli Slicks for sale if you want to go that route. They are 160/60-17 rear and 120/70-17 front and I wore them for only one race in 2007. PM if interested... I've got pics I can send, too and can talk about delivery or pickup:teeth:thumbup:ride
