Skiboarding. Who's done it and what do you think of it?

demo'd them (for free) in 2001 if my memory serves me here in oz.

cranking out large radius turns on hard pack were pretty neat. not sure how these would fair in powder?

meh, the novelty wore off rather quickly and it was good to get back to real skiing.

i don't know, maybe me, but i like skiing with sticks in my hand and on planks longer than my wang ;) ...

My sister has been doing it for the better part of decade. Just another way of getting down the hill I suppose.

I gave it a shot a few times and would do it again.

I never got comfortable on skis because I was always concerned for my knees. Those super long sticks really twisted them a few times and I didn't want to end my soccer playing days because of it, so I switched to snowboards.

Then I hit a plateau on the snowboard. I got bored with it and my wife was skiing on a lower level than me, so I switched once again.

That's when I decided to give the shortskis a chance. It was fun. As stated above...just another way of getting down the mountain.

I am NOT an advanced snow sport adventurer...blue squares and no jumping for me. Actually, we are slowly going the snowshoe route...

I fucking hate those short skis and those that wear them. Never seen anyone on them that wasn't completely out of control and skiing like an asshole.

Did see someone this past weekend that had ski bindings on a downhill snowboard, with ski poles. He was having a tough time in the powder, didn't look very fun.

Well, I'd use these guys for doing freestyle runs (alternative to buying twin tip skis) and as a teaching aid for friends.

One concern I have is that most of these guys have non-release bindings and I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to track down a newer pair that does.

They carve really well, super fast......and hard to stop. You can't cross 'em like you would with skis...ya gotta stop 'em like you would a snowboard.

I gave 'em a try a few seasons ago after my ankle and knee injury. My ankles no longer have the lateral stability for snowboards.

They're easy to use if you have a skiing background.

Don't try the Salomon Snowblades...they're not skiboards....they're basically short skis.

A 90-110 skiboard with a wider profile (10-12) tdoes really decent in powder.

Stick with the non release bindings as they are much lighter than the standard ones that release....

Chiming in a little late here but I've been skiboarding off and on for the past 4 seasons. They were a natural fit for me. I got on the mountain late and by the time I decided to learn how to snowboard, my other friends were flying down the mountain and were stuck waiting for me to tumble down the hill the first few times I went. The next time up, a friend let me borrow his skiiboards and I was able to keep up with my snowboarding friends on my first time out with them.

I used to rollerblade quite a bit when I was younger so the skiiboards were a natural fit. I like them. They're fun and give you the look/questions that snowboarders used to get years ago. People always ask me on the slopes how I like them, are they hard to use, etc. Definitely a nice conversation starter.
