This is how my day started...........

"Good morning, my name is Officer Garcia of the California Highway Patrol. May I see your license, registration and proof of insurance?"

He didn't get me on radar, but paced me. Says I was doing 80+ on 680 N, moving in and out of traffic. Then said I took the Alcosta exit at over 70.

I wasn't paying attention to my speed, but he may have underestimated (oops). I did move through a few cars to get to an area where I wasn't boxed in. I did take the exit at over 70.

Citation for 80 in a 65. Traffic school here I come. Sigh..........

Yeah, where's the "A**hole cop!", where's the "He was waiting for me!", where's the "He must hate sportbikes because they're not Harleys!", where's the "why isn't he out there stopping real crime!", where's the pseudo-psychoanalysis of the cop's childhood "he musta been picked on as a kid so he got a badge and a gun to get even with the bullies that beat him up and now he's picking on me!"..... :laughing

I forgot to mention.........Officer Garcia is a CHP motorcycle cop. I got bagged by "one of our own".

He gave me a small lecture about safety. I said, "I'm sure you don't agree, but I always felt I was keeping my safety margin in place." He told me to be careful, and I responded the same way. We're all on two wheels.

Hey, the guy was just doing his job. Whether I agree with his safety assessment or not is immaterial. I violated the rules of the road and got caught. He wrote me a ticket. I get to pay it.

D'oh!! I wrote Alcosta, but meant Bolinger Canyon exit. The exit to Bolinger Canyon off of 680 N is two lanes wide and straight as an arrow. Taking that exit at 70 is like riding down the highway at 70.

As I was heading to the light at the end of the exit, I dropped down a few gears. The light was green, so I leaned it over and turned left onto Bolinger Canyon at 35 - 40. After I straightened up I saw the lights behind me. I thought he was going to tag me for going through the turn too fast, and I was thinking "Gosh, I was only doing 40 through the turn." He had no problems with my turn speed. He had issues with my straight line speed.

I'm such a squid.

Pacing is once of those things that a radar detector won't help you with. Bummer.

I got pulled over by a motor officer once on Hwy 680 on the way to Honda Milpitas once early in the morning. I appologized, told him the bike was new to me and that it was much smoother than my previous ride and then straight up asked him if he could see his way clear to letting me off with a verbal warning. He did and I thanked him with a handshake. Cool.

Heh, reminds me of when i got tagged on the pass coming into SB from Solvang. Cop tagged me at "70+" with one hand on the bars through a marked 45. :laughing

I got off the bike, we chatted for a bit, and he let me go because i had everything in order and was wearing my gear. Nice cop. I would have been fine with him writing the ticket too...stand up guy, not a jackass.

Sometimes you think more about what you've done wrong, and what you can do to correct it, when you are let off rather than actually penalized... maybe because it doesn't happen that often.

I used to take that exit, everyday, in my truck - at high speeds. It's an easy, wide, gentle exit. Check it on GoogleEarth and you'll see it's not a "corner" at all.:thumbup

+2 on bollinger being a fast exit

Come to think of it, I'm beginning to wonder if RWC CHP office has any motor officers. I can't remember the last time I've seen one on 101 through the peninsula.

I remember, on Monday President's day, I saw a moto LEO with a modern Moto (so it must have been a BMW or an ST ) enter at around .. Harbor Blvd? Or Holly St.

Sure thing, by Whipple he had pulled over a BMW 3-series from the #1 lane ..

Yeah anyway, so San Carlos/ RWC must have some Motos.

I would direct you to my earlier post that started with "D'oh!"

I entered 680 off Alcosta and took the Bollinger Canyon exit at 70. The Bollinger Canyon exit is two separate lanes, long, flat and straight; it's like staying on the highway.

They're around but I don't see them on 101 often either; I saw two riding together around RWC a weekend or two ago. They also like eating lunch at the taqueria at the marina shopping center in san mateo/foster city just off hillsdale. :laughing Of course I haven't seen them there in a while...maybe their bikes are starting to hit retirement?

I did see one just this morning riding up the shoulder of edgewood in san carlos towards 280 to get past the the slow moving traffic....his buddy in the cruiser I saw shortly after wasn't so fortunate.

They're all on the other side, on 280. Usually radaring at the El Monte, Page Mill, and Alpine onramps. :laughing

imo don't say anything that isn't asked from you other than polite words.
"good morning officer"

take the ticket if thats all your getting.

then fight it in court, or pay it like a man and buy a cop a cup of coffee.

Thanks for the advice.:rolleyes

Pacing is once of those things that a radar detector won't help you with. Bummer.

I got pulled over by a motor officer once on Hwy 680 on the way to Honda Milpitas once early in the morning. I appologized, told him the bike was new to me and that it was much smoother than my previous ride and then straight up asked him if he could see his way clear to letting me off with a verbal warning. He did and I thanked him with a handshake. Cool.

I got a ticket on 680 S in my car from some kid who was laughing with his friend while writing it. Got on at Stoneridge and by the time I stopped on the side of the freeway, I had gone less than 1.5 miles, still a ways off from Bernal. He said he paced me for 1/4 mile at 88, but he would write the ticket for 80. Whenever an officer plays let's make a deal for a ticket, they're full of crap. By the way, in court he said he paced me for 1/2 mile. I saw him appear in my rearview when he was a speck and at the time I was following a minivan going ~70. He rapidly catches up and turns his lights on. How do you accurately pace at that distance? Judge said, "He wouldn't be a CHP officer if he hadn't passed the pace training..." Needless to say, he showed up, so it didn't matter what I had to say. He didn't even bring the proper document stating that the vehicle he was using had been properly inspected for the year. Judge said there was no way I could win, unless I could prove he didn't pass his training or the vehicle wasn't working as intended. This is like guilty until you can prove the other guy more guilty.... I missed two days of work to fight an $80 ticket just to be told there is no justice.

What's better is I was in the process of joining the CHP, passed the written and physical, and was in the background investigation stage. So after that and dealing with the jerks in the CHP office who were doing my background check, I told the officer working my case that I couldn't work with a bunch of aholes, stop contacting me.

There's a real rant for anyone disappointed with the original post. By the way, I have no problem admitting when I do something wrong. Got pulled over in Nevada a long time ago when I was stationed in Missouri and the officer asked if I knew why he pulled me over, I said speeding, he asked how fast I was going, I said my limiter kicks in at 105 so probably 100. I think he was shocked with my honesty because he paused for a moment and said if I keep it around 80, no one would mess with me and wrote me a ticket for 80.

The officer in the previous situation asked no questions, came to my window, made a statement, and took my information. He made no comment that my insurance and registration were expired.

Might have been the same officer this morning writing up 2 cars and 1 bike this morning on the shoulder of 680N near Livorna. Rare to see 1 traffic stop netting 3 vehicles.
