View Full Version : 2006 R6 runnin from the CHP (you tube vid)
With all this talk about the yellow ducati rider getting rolled, I think this is the perfect time to show what else can happen when you run from the cops.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57p2zxXTo1I&NR=1
You can redline in 6th and watch the flashing lights disappear, but once you start bouncing off of cars, those CHP are going to come up fast. and as you can tell from the officers in this video, they aren't going to happy. :laughing
Also, keep in mind that the helicopter stayed on him the entire video...:thumbup

If only every high speed bike chase ended like that. Bike destroyed, nobody hurt except the perp, and the cops get their man.

I wonder if he wishes he had just pulled over, taken a ticket (at worst), and moved on with his day?
stupid hurts.

The crash seems to be a good illustration how it's hard to correct the line of the bike at high speed, right? He wanted to take that right-most lane but the car was going there, too.
He also locked the rear and his rear tire hit the dark car (Honda). Btw, lucky rider I guess.. in a way.
I, for one, was surprised to see that he was wearing Icon gear...

A friend of mine knows that guy. Apparently he had no idea he was being chased. Either way it sucks things had to end the way they did.

I sure as hell hope not. I didn't get much of the story but from what he was saying the guy was just ripping on it. Who knows what the truth might be.

What...? I have been passed in my car by riders like that on the freeway.
See the video again--he wasn't going that fast, and on some moments, and towards the end, he was going pretty slow... at one time it seemed like 'traffic speed' ..

I dunno :dunno- when the helicopters are pacing me- I tend to get a lil paranoid and usually speed up a bit.:p
Not to mention that right after he tried to use his bike as a key to open that car's trunk, he got up and put his hands on the hood of the car as if to say, "I'm not going anywhere and here are my hands."
Damn COPS!! To bad they chased him..... should have just let him go.

I believe he didn't know he was being chased. It's not easy to see a helicopter when your going double speed the flow of traffic at full tuck. Either way this guy is lucky to do a flip on the freeway and survive it. I have a lot of respect to the cops for not using excessive force when they finally got to him.
I imagine, "oh man, my bike is toast" going through his head as he is sitting in the shoulder.

dumb shit. glad nobody else was hurt...
Yeah he knew. No one rides that way, "just because". At some point, someone tried to stop him, and he took off.

Looks like the n00b panicked and locked up his rear wheel. I'd hope if you plan to run from the cops at least be a decent rider.:rolleyes
He locked up the rear wheel indeed, as he target locked on the car that was making the lane change. He's lucky to be walking.... another testiment to a good helmet.

Can CHPs use spike strips against a bike? It would be very dangerous to suddenly deflate the tires on a bike, so I'm guessing not.
No, most departments, including CHP, can not use spike strips on motorcycles.

But don`t you feel bad for the bike? And yea... I guess it was a good thing it was the bike that did the flip over the car and not him... at least I think that was how it went.
Nope, don't feel bad for the bike, and yes, I would love all my pursuits to end without a wreck, and bad guys go to jail, however it rarely does.

And Two other things :
Texas :- Ran a red light (no need to face slam them into your patrol car for that)
Spain :- Held people hostage and claimed to have a hand grenade (in a country that was recently attacked by ETA)
Also, by the sounds of things it was planned to ram him when he got on the bike. Probably approved by the heads of his department.

To the LEOs : (hypothetical Q) If it was a homicide suspect or someone shooting at you- can you use any and all means (like your vehicle) to stop a situation like that? (Where you are in fear for your life or others.)
There is a great vid on the net, which I wasnt able to find, of a police officer ramming a guy that was shooting at him. It was the thrid shootout in that pursuit, and when the suspect parked in the roadway, driver side towards on comming traffic, the officer planted the push bars right on the steering wheel. So, yes. If I was in a shoot out, and taking rounds, and that was the last course of action, I'd use my vehicle however, I needed it.

Let's not paint every one with the same brush here, I'm sure some members of ETA have ran red lights. Yes ETA is a group of Spanish people, from the Basque region, looking for independence from Spain

^^ If you watch closely in that video, you can see a gun fly towards the top right of the screen when they ram the guy... a second or two later and he would have gotten shots off for sure....
WOW, how many times did you watch that video to catch the gun flying off... I think I would not have noticed that at all.:thumbup
Damn good police work, if you ask me!! If you ask some others, they say, "Let him go!"

That was the one that was a high-speed down a very long street, right?
If that's the one, the radio broadcasts talk about a gun. Not sure if the rider robbed a store or if there was a shooting or something. It was more than just running for vehicle code stuff.

Yes it was the one where it was down a long street. A couple of turns but not many. I didnt hear the broadcast say anything. It was 3am and my girl was asleep so the volume was down.
