so you have the front wheel in the air (breifly), and are about to set it down....and when you do the bars vibrate, or wiggle a bit... was this a result of the handlebars not being exactly straight when comming down to the ground? how far off straight can they go , before you will dump it?
would hitting the gas (at the last moment) when comming down from a wheelie lessen this? would a steering damper correct this or help with it?

mine wiggle a bit sometimes when I set it down ... I noticed that if I set it down too gently they wiggle more then when I set it down a little faster (no tank slappers)

Yes, a steering damper will definitely help. Most bikes need one anyway if you ride agressively or do wheelies, should be the first mod that you do to your bike.
In my experiance I found this problem more noticable when the front tire presure is low.
Other things to look at is your steering head bearings. Make sure they are not to tight or to loose. If your not sure on how to properly adjust them I highly recommend that you have a professional do it.
Last but not least. Your suspension set up.

Heard you are supose to hit the gas while coming down to land softer and safer
I had the front end wiggle a bit when landing on rough roads. The gixxer 1K comes with a damper, yet it still does it.
Wait till you get them when your doing the stand-up at 75 MPH and the front starts the wiggles. It happened to me today on Skyline. It was a little bit windy.

I would definitely recommend a damper. The wiggles are from not being perfectly straight. Front tire pressure will definitely make a differance too. If you are going to be doing wheelies on the street I would definitely suggest getting a damper. It's saved my ass a couple times just because you never now what will happen on the street. Big cust of wind comes and you have to set it down crooked, no damper, major take slapper. Hit a little bump in the road coming down, major tank slapper.

I have been lucky i guess...i performed all my stunts in BTB dvd with no dampner i just finally got one. Never had a major tank slapper. I guess i am always quick to turn my front wheel straight. I did all my freeway wheelies and everything with no damper :p .
