Ive been on a flight coming into Reno with high cross winds, the plane was landing sideways like that and after touching one set of rear wheels it arched up on one side just like that one did.......although our pilot slammed it down and we didnt touch wing like that guy :thumbup
Still it was the wildest landing I have ever been through.
:wtf
Supermoto backin' it in style.

DAMN!
That pilot has skils and a huge pair of brass ones.
I'm sure half of the passengers need a new underwear.:teeth

CRAZY! What kind of ATC allowed them to land on a runway with cross-winds like that? Shouldn't they have been landing on a strip perpendicular to that one?

It's not like they don't have one.

I've flown all over the world, only time I almost ralphed was flying into Elko's tiny airport. I already had the bag out just in case, way too close for comfort.
That big Lufthansa plane was like a toy getting thrown around, horrifying.

I'd specifically ask to fly Lufthansa with that pilot at the controls. That was all weather induced on approach and he masterfully saved that jet from total destruction. They practice windy approaches like this in the sims but this was like simulator on level 11...not many pilots would have saved it.

+1! That pilot has some serious skills

OK I sent that link to my friend who has his commercial aircraft license. He pretty much said that guy has brass balls. Once the guy went off the tarmac he was screwed. Cus you cant finish the landing, but at the same time you have done damage to the wing and powering the plane up for another go around puts alot of stress on the wings.
Anyways he had shown a a few clips of planes coming in sideways like that. Its kinda funny cus he will sit there and tell you what the pilot is doing during the landing.

I remember coming into a landing in Minneapolis where I could feel the plane skidding all over the sky. I was thinking, "How much wind must there be if I can feel a DC9 getting blown all over the sky?"
As we got ready to touch down, the pilot dipped the wing into the wind, then set the left side gear on the ground. Instead of straightening the plane up, it continued to roll into the wind. I was watching as wing tip was getting closer and closer to the ground. I thought the wing tip was going to dig into the ground and cart wheel the aircraft down the run way. Passengers started to yell. Then the plane got yanked straight. Worst landing I've ever experienced. Scared the shit out of me.

That's one of the two ways to land in high crosswinds, the wing-low slip landing, or the way the Lufthansa tried to land, turning into the wind, or crab landing. All planes use one of the these two techniques when the wind blows across the runway, it's perfectly normal and safe, as long as you don't exceed the manufactures maximum wind speed. :thumbup

I know about the technique. Dipping the wing into the wind makes sense. Continuing to dip the wing into the wind and almost burying the wingtip in the ground upon landing is not the recommended procedure.

That's why there is a max crosswind component to limit how far you have to dip the wing.
I had no idea you could attempt to land a plane in 150 mph winds. My Cessna is limited to 15 kts. :wow
