View Full Version : Bike Builders - Pod filter Problems?

So I'm embarking on the whole cafe racer project - 81' CB650. I'm pretty convinced I'm going for the pod filter set-up with a 4-1 MAC exhaust and Stage III jet kit. I'm REALLY thinking about adding a bigger ignition, too. Not sure if it's necessary, though since there's not going to be any internal engine mods. Jeez, I just pulled the carbs, and there's some real nasty rust and soot in the bowls... anyway...
Knowing the way real life bike building goes, I know I'm not going to bolt all this crap together and it's going to run like a champ - I'm already expecting lean problems. Any other problems that might occur? Is it really going to make a difference, or is this really all for cosmetic purposes?

if you get a stage 3 kit thats made to work with a removed airbox/pod filters it should run fine after you bolt it all together.

Shawn boy,
Will a performance ignition be necessary? Or just go with some better plug wires and call it a day?

wouldn't bother with the plug wires, its not a civic dx yo! maybe some iridium plugs, maybe.

I know, I know. I've always wnated to build a vintage cafe racer and Ifound this one for $425. So far I've spent $220 (incl. chemicals). I want to keep it all under $1000, which I think I can do.
Hey Shawn, any tips on removing rust from inside the tank? I'm thinking about going old school with BB's or chain, followed up CLR or 10% phosperic acid. It's not really rusted that bad inside, but enough to turn the gas that was in there copper color.
