I have a Velocity Gear spine protector that I've used about 5 times--I only wore it on those rare occasions when I put on some leathers (I typically ride with my aerostitch). Do a search on the Velocity Gear stuff--very high quality, and crash tested to be higher energy absorption than the Dainese spine protectors. In appearance, though, they're almost identical.
Mine is a 6 plate size (good for someone 5'6" to 6'1"). I'm at that upper end, and it fits me perfectly.
