Hello all,

I haven't had a bike for a few years and have been avidly looking for one recently. Alas, my searches almost always go towards the same place: craigslist. There are just too many what if's with that for me to bear. Can anyone else down here reccommend somewhere else to look? I'm basically looking for something that is a 600 or less, no more than 4-5k, and a place where I can test ride the used bike.

I'm not limited to actual shops, but am open to other sites that are more San Diego oriented. Any help? Thanks a ton in advance!

any decent bike at a shop is going to be overpriced, esp down here in the SD market. i believe Lee's, ALBA, and FunBike all sell used bikes. however, they are few and far between.. and when u do find a good one, they attempt to rape the seller on the price. go back to craigslist. plenty of responsible guys in the Armed Forces down here that end up selling their bikes because of deployment, making for good deals on great bikes.

House of Motorcycles south location has a large used stock, but once again will rape you for cost, as will Fun Bike (not as much used stock as ). Craigslist is the way to go price wise, although it seems a lot of people think they know how to work on their bikes down here (myself included!).

I haven't shopped in a while, but I noticed occasionally the sellers will list that it was maintained by a certain dealer or other in the listing. Use your search-fu to narrow it down.

Also what stang said, with the deployments.

Then there's the classifieds, but they're pretty worthless.

Edit> I've also come across a couple sportbikes for sale by word of mouth in the PB area. With the 83 Honda Sabre, I'm going to guess that's not what you're looking for?

If you're willing to go a bit higher, also keep in mind - OTD:

07 SV650 (naked): $5500 OTD

Thanks for the replys guys. Ya, I am looking for something newer. My starter bike was the one in my avatar. A lot of the electronics didn't work and there were little quirks with it, so not it's not what I am looking for - ha! I'm looking for something hassle free, fun and cheap(er) to insure than say something like a R6.

I always see the posts from the military people going off for deployment but I don't get the right vibe from a lot of them. I guess I'll just keep looking and spend the time to find the right bike. I just saw what looked like a cherry '03 GS500.

My budget is flexible and I will pay for the bike outright. Still have to go back out and get a new helmet, leathers and boots - i'm going all out for saftey (I work with liability and insurance, no chances for me ;) )

Please, keep up the ideas as I am definitely open to them. Thank you!
