I picked up a pair of Puma 1000 boots for Christmas (the wife) and they are fantastic!! I had to replace my Alpinestars ever since I lowsided at Buttonwillow and got my foot stuck under the case..:( I was also having shifting issues with the A-Stars... Just not flexible enough or I have a wussy foot, (street shift pattern). A little research and I found that Puma made a boot more like a shoe and then reinforced and beefed it up into a real race boot... Randy Depuniet (sp) from Moto GP wears them and I guess he helped design as well.

Anyway they are awsome!!:thumbup Very comfortable to ride in and to wear when you are just walking about. They a faily stylish but I think the style got to Puma's head and thus the $395 asking price..:wow I picked mine up from Cycle Gear and got some discount which only made them about 40 bucks more than my old A-stars..$320 OTD. The best part... I haven't missed a shift since!

But there is one issue, which I have contacted the Puma rep for North American Motorsports about.. The toe sliders are made from Zinc..Which is non-sparking, but you go try to pass AFM tech...ain't gonna happen.. I am running without the slider and just a piece of plastic currently, but the rep said he was looking into making some factory puma plastic slider soon.

I hope this helps in the eternal boot search!!:ride

Wow, that's a great deal. :thumbup

And I had the same shifting problems with the astars, life is much better with Sidis.

great boot for a track day or weekend rides. but they're too much of a pain in the arse for me to use daily.

and they squeaked like a mother. almost as bad as my oxtars.

didn't they come with 2 extra sets of toe sliders, one with the metal, the other in all plastic.. the desmos come that way.

I like them as well, however if you have any sort of fat foot/ankle I don't think these boots will fit you(they fit me fine)

Hey AFM915 I too have tried to mentioned that to puma because club racing won't allow it. It would really boost sales for them, however I would really hate for you to upset the wifey and get really pissed off if you scuffed them without a toe slider, so here is a suggestion try another make of toe slider and modify it so that it bolts in and doesn't look to out of place... that is what I am going to try and do wen my arrive:cool:ride and ride in style and make the wife happy..

Anytime you got a partner that is behind you like that it gives you an added since of style

Peace bro

Well I agree they are really only for trackday and weekend use...daily use would suck. I had just explained to someone else that when I was done racing at buttonwillow I could barely muster enough strength to get them off.. Which really is what you want but not for daily riding..

As far as the squeaks go, one is squeaky and one isn't.:wtf When I got them they didn't have any spare anythings... The PUMA rep hooked my up with spare plastic pieces that support the actual metal toe slider.. I made a protype toe slider out UHMW plastic but it is hard to fit and a bitch to mill if you are in a hurry.
I have a teflon tester I am going to try at Sears Point this weekend.. I will update with that once the weekend is over.:thumbup

Thanks for reading, I hoped this helped!! Have fun with any boot and just ride!!:ride

Squeaky..just a little out of one..Not like my a-stars.. those were embarrasing even at the track, with everyone else wearing the same thing.:mad

Also make sure the tiny allen bolt that holds the rear plastic section on is tight. I've lost a few of them already. Locktite would be a good idea
