Axial Video is running an introductory offer for AFM racers at Round 3. For $60/day and $110/race weekend we will rent you one of our Mini DVR systems to use for as much recording as you can do per day. We do the installation in under 15 minutes. The ultra-miniature cameras can be mounted almost anywhere on the bike with our custom soft-mounting systems This allows for some interesting camera angles (see our website for some examples). The DVR attaches to a frame member with our proven no-drill mount system that is guaranteed to pass tech. Quick change batteries and SD cards provide virtually unlimited record time. Crash damage insurance for our equipment is included in the cost of the rental.
The Axial Video on-board systems are unique among video systems in use for this task in that they do not interfere with your view or get in the way of your riding style in any way. Our systems are engineered to be easy to use, out of the riders way and totally reliable, exactly the features you want in anything you put on a racing motorcycle.
Full track-side support, immediate after practice/race viewing in our AV Lounge with complimentary cold beverages. A disc of your raw footage in computer viewable format delivered at the end of the day. Along with this special introductory offer we will also include a DVD video disc of your footage which will be sent to you afterwards ($10 value).
Not a bad deal at all!

We are looking at working with selected track day providers to provide this service at track day weekends as soon as possible.
In the meantime we can rent systems on a DIY basis if you come to our office in SF to pickup and return. We can even mount it for you if you bring the bike to us. The systems are very easy to use and if you have a notebook PC you can download and view the footage as soon as you come in from a session at the track. Viewing is also possible right on the DVR with it's built-in screen and speakers :-)

We are about to release our hi-rez on-board systems for rental and sale. We have lens options for these systems ranging from standard 90 degrees to 140 degrees!!! We can get any shot you want with these systems in full broadcast resolution (720x480, 580 lines).
Here is some test footage from one of the Pro DVR systems running a standard resolution 480 line camera with a 90 degree lens at the AMA race last weekend.

Is it possible to have multiple views (multiple cameras) that can later be edited to provide a continuous video that goes between the different shots (ie. a shot looking forward, with another looking at rider, and maybe another looking behind the rider at traffic in the back)
with all raw footage also available individually (ie. full video of angle looking behind bike, in front of bike, etc?)
thanks

Close, but not quite. We have several ways of handling this.
1st method is to run a DVR and Camera per view desired. This gives you discreet footage of each shot. We have installed as many as 3 Mini DVR systems on a single bike with no problems. This is the simplest way to go and the only way to get discreet footage of each camera view.
We are beta testing a high rez Bullet DVR 4 channel system right now that will allow up to 4 camera signals to be recorded at once. The limitations are that all cameras must be electronically composited into a single signal at time of recording in one of several preset formats.
You can have Quad Split where 4 cameras fill the screen in a 4x square. You can have two cameras Side By Side and Top To Bottom. There are also two PIP modes available (Picture In Picture) One foreground and one PIP, and one foreground and two PIP's.
This system will be available for rental in a couple of months and for sale by the end of the year. We are preparing it for AFM race testing right now and will have demo footage available immediately after AFM Round 4 at Thunderhill.

Geoff, thanks for the response. That sounds very cool.
I think a simpler version is what I was looking for myself, but that set up that you guys are trying to put on sounds pretty cool too.
I was thinking that if you guys can (and from your post it seems that you can) record several different angles, I could then take the raw footage on my own and edit a single running video, splicing together different views as the video runs.
while at the same time, keeping 3 separate views that can be watched individually as well. right?
thanks, sorry to sound complicated. but I can just come by and check it out at the Thunderhill round in July. I'm hoping to be there.
cheers

It is not too hard to take discretely recorded camera angles and create an interactive DVD that allows selecting the view on the fly. There are several DVD Authoring software packages out there that will allow this once you have the individual recordings. There are even playback systems that will zoom in on sections of a video which would allow something similar with the Quad Split and Side By Side record options of our new 4 channel system.
If you want to do it, we can sort out a way to do it! Video is what we do and doing it right is the only way we will do it ;)
