I went to Burgess a few weeks ago to do some lap swimming; unfortunately for me, I've been rather inactive for the last 10+ years and was barely able to swim 100m continuously. I had to take breaks every 50m and if I push it, I go 100m but mostly floating. Overall I did 400m that day.

So I've decided to get back into swimming. I expect my distance progress to reach 2000m in 4-5 weeks of 2x/week visits. I'm looking for some partner who's in a similar situation so that we can keep each other motivated and go.

I just picked it up. Do you have any of the Total Immersion DVDs? Some video to show me exactly what the drills should look like would help even more.

I keep hearing Total Immersion, so maybe I'll pick one up. My only formal-ish swimming intruction was that I used to swim on my HS team and read some books to teach swimming (was WSI certified).

Right now, I need to get back into shape. It is very sad to see your old speedo having 0 elastics and break apart when youre squeezing into it. If any of you seem some guy struggling to go 25m, that'll probably be me :(

I'm thinking about going there this Wednesday....

I don't have the DVD's, but try to apply the techniques by feel, you can't watch yourself swim anyway. The best thing to do would be for us to get that swim workshop with Bill together.

Does anybody want to swim at Burgess on this Wednesday at around 6PM?

I'm thinking I'll do this every Wednesday (my car commute day), so once a week to get back into shape. It would be nice to have a partner. My preferred partner is somebody who used to swim seriously and now wants to get back into shape. First, I'd like to build up endurance, once endurance is good (say 1-2km) I'd like to work on different strokes for fun so that we'll keep it interesting.

If it'll make you feel better, I went and bought a pair of baggy swim trunks. It helps conceal the fat and give me more workout. however, it seems that I'm the only one wearing baggys in the lap pool.

I've gone 2 days now and got up to 1.2km but needed to rest every 100ish. Last time some girl was doing butterfly and I decided try it too... not the best idea when you've been out of practice for years plus when you are completely tired. But it was good to do the fly again one of my best and favorite strokes. I'm looking forward to my next session and hoping reserve more energyfor fly.

I swam on various swim teams as a kid, passed the Red Cross WSI but was too young to be credentialed. Also was NAUI and PADI certified. I am about to start swimming regularly. Where is Burgess? I've been considering Fremont High School, 24Hr fitness (across the street from Fremont High) or biting the bullet and paying a lot to go to Decathlon Club.

I had a guest pass at Decathlon Club last year and swam a mile and a half that day. Took me a while to get into the swing but it came back nicely. Started with a lot of breast stroke and then crawl. I'm ~50 lbs lighter now, might be more fun this time around.

Burgess is between Menlo Park and Palo Alto near Alma and Ravenswood (Sandhill/El Camino). If you are interested PM me and we can coordinate. Once we get our endurance up, we can work on strokes. Ifthere's 2 of us, we can film, which will let us critique each other and imrpove very quickly.
