My name is Chris and just got back a few days ago from doing a tour in Iraq. I'm planning on getting a motorcycle very soon, mostly for hobby riding but also for commuting from San Jose to SF State college in the fall. I became convinced it was a great hobby to pick up after hearing a lot of positive stories from fellow soldiers while deployed. So I'll be taking the MSF course from BAMT in June and I'm pretty excited about learning to ride. For a first bike, I'm looking at a Suzuki SV650s or a Honda CBR F4i 600. Thanks for the great forums!

Welcome back! Getting into motorcycling will definitely save you gas on your commute and make it fun. Smart move on taking the MSF course. If you decide to go for the Hondas, I've read that you should stick with the older ones like the F3s and F2s. The SV650 sounds like a good choice though.

hello and welcome to barf! i personally know two iraq veterans who, for some reason, chose a yamaha fz6 as their current bike. it sounds as though you think along the same lines (displacement, model type, etc) in considering an sv650.

a fine bike, that.

best of luck on the roads, welcome home and welcome to barf!
