We'll be dumping the aircooled engine soon for a Subie mill. Then it's back to the big tracks and "time attacks".

Then decided I didn't want the next body conact in a 40k car to be my fault, so I retired it from track duty

yeah, that's what I thought after I fixed up that little Honda. I was prepping it for H production, but then decided it was too nice to sacrifice.
So an uninsured drunk driver took it out.

So now I believe in runnin' 'em hard and letting the chips fall where they may. (granted, this was NEVER anything close to a 40K car...maybe if you left a couple zeros off.. ;) )
Really nice car btw. :thumbup

Who's a good trackday provider and what kind of money we talkin' about? I sold the MC and bought a miata, as my riding skills were marginal and I was a danger to myself. I would like to get back on a track. Was considering a Kart too.

Are those pics from the Marina UFO Auto-x? I haven't been there in a while but I think I recognize your car. Looks sharp.
I also like the camaro pics from sacramento raceway. One of my favorite places. :)

When are you heading back there? I just got my car smogged/tagged and installed a roll bar finally so I'm itching to make a trip down for a TNT. :) I know I've seen that camaro before.

i'm thinkin august 16th for grudge nite, wanna get drug?
I don't go on grudge night usually because it costs so much in fuel/tires/nitrous/etc.. that I just pay the extra and go on the TNT when it's better prepped. :)
What does drug mean? Do I get shot with a cat tranquilizer or something?

I've been to Marina with the Ghia a few times. But they were awhile ago. Only once while it's been turbocharged. The Ghia pics are from Atwater, DeAnza college, and Oakland colosium respectively.
I'd go more often, but right now it needs $400.00 in front tires.:(

I always recommend starting with autocrossing.
(here's a calendar of events http://www.sfrscca.org/solo2/cgi-bin/schedaction.cgi?autox&where=all&Next_three_months )
And I do this for a reason.
Autocross is a fantastic place to learn car control. While out on the course, you are in a constant state of sliding, losing control and then recovering control of your car. All in an environment that has speeds slow enough to allow you and the car to finish the day without any big hits to the pocketbook.
You spend a bit of time in this environment, and it teaches you to recognize the warning signs of imminent doom (spins and slides) before you get to the point you can no longer do anything about it.
THEN...
You go to the big tracks and really learn how to go fast.
Do it like this and when you do hit the road courses, you already have a lot of the necessary skills in place to maintain good control. And this is now much more important, because going past the edge of traction at track speeds, results in much longer slides. And now its not just cones that can be hit. It's tires, and walls, and even soft dirt can turn really ugly with enough momentum and a bad angle.
Many people don't do it in this order, and that's fine too. Just like the bike track days, the car track groups are usually set up in a starter/intermediate/advance formula to help with getting up to speed. But I really think the autocrosses beforehand help you be safer.
As far as groups.
I've been to quite a number of www.nasaproracing.com events. They call them HPDE's
I've been to one www.unlimitedlaps.com event pretty well organized
there are others, but I haven't experienced them firsthand.
BTW, the Miata is a brilliant track car. Not the fastest in stock form. But with mild suspension mods, good tires, and good driving they can run 2:teens. at T-hill :) (even 2:0x's with REALLY good driving :thumbup )

I started on dirt track...had a blast!!
Then went to drag strip...had a blast, but broke the car a couple times :rofl

Then went to open track at Infineon...Made everyting else pale in comparison!!! Now autox is kinda, blah.

i hear ya with racing being expensive. And honestly i like TNT a lot better too, just with it being summer and TNT being on fridays, my swing shift schedual conflicts with it so i have to go to grudge nites. When TNT's get moved back to Sat afternoons ull see me there but until then i have to do the grudge nites. No prep makes it that much more fun :teeth
Drug is redneck for chopped the f*ck off :twofinger

autox is one of those things that you don't need to try to know sucks.
So i never really got into the dirt track stuff just because it seems like it's expensive as f*ck. Is it?

Better work on your R/T's.. because you aren't going to run me down. :laughing
Autocross is so much fun it's scary. I can take my 500 ish HP drag car there and slide it around every corner without worrying about killing myself/others or damaging the car. It really teaches you how to control a car (or in my case how not too heh).

There's a Miata Performance Driving School at Thunderhill at the end of March every year. I think it was $420 this year for Friday ground school, Saturday morning exercises, and Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday track time (with instructors). It's no longer put on by Team Miata, but you can get info through the Bay Area Miata Association www.txt.com/bama. Very worthwhile.
