Please define "comfortable 2-up ride". Is that 20 minutes, two hours, half a day? Give us a range to target.

2 hours is probably fine, but a half day ride will prbably be a little tiring. i guess we can borrow a car though if the place is worth it! i havent seen her in a while so i'd rather be hanging out with her than riding anyway.

Most of the places I have personal experience with are probably too far north - Marin, Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties. Have you considered booking into a hotel in the city? I've booked some pretty nice hotels over weekends using Hotwire. It's possible to spend a very romantic weekend in the city, with or without the moto. If you take the moto, book a hotel that has indoor parking.
There may be some inns, etc. on the San Mateo or Monterey county coasts, but I'm not familiar with those.
I hope you have a happy time.
Cheers,

Monterey for the scenery....SF area for the pretty night lights...+ you can score some extra points with some fine restaurants around the area..

Take 1 up to Mendocino...tons of awesome places along the coast up there to stay. I'd recommend the Macallum house

Coming from a chick, Carmel is the #1 spot that is within an hour or so from Santa Clara. They've always got cute places out on the water like bungalow style that is private, or a lot of different B&Bs. Check it out. Two thumbs up from me!!

+2 on the Carmel/Monterey/Big Sur area.
The two-up is nice, several shops, restaurants and sightseeing.

You'll have a great time.
My boyfriend and I have such a great time there.
Especially hanging out on the beach.
Sightseeing the Carmel Catholic Mission and riding up to Cannery Row is nice because it's a scenic route of the ocean/bay.
There are several shops in downtown Carmel and you can always do the 17 mile drive through Pebble Beach.
There are several nice restaurants for every type of cuisine.
If you're into long walks there are several trails along the beaches and the bay.
I'm envious!
Have a blast!:ride

Yeah! One thing I always do on a long weekend stay is do the 17 mile drive route and take along a picnic basket and enjoy lunch out on the beach at a table.
Oh wait...you can't take a moto down 17mile drive unless you're a resident. But it's a beautiful drive so see if you can get a zipcar or something. Have a great time! The weather should be awesome!

Hey! Well, since it's rich city central, most places are dog friendly. They've got a lot of cute little outdoor cafes that you can take your dog with you. Also some really nice trails up in the mtns and beach you can take your dogs to. I'm not sure about which beaches are pet friendly or not but I'm sure you can look it up online about. Try these:

If you're heading down that way, they are having the new Great White exhibit at the aquarium this weekend.
For the 4th Time, a White Shark on Exhibit
We just placed a young white shark in the Outer Bay exhibit, and so far she’s doing well.
The shark—4 ½-feet long and weighing 55 ½ pounds—will remain with us as long as her health is good and she’s small enough for us to handle safely when it’s time to return her to the wild.
We’ve learned a lot from the tracking tags placed on the first three sharks when we successfully released them—and from 16 other young animals our research team has tagged in the field since 2002.
Data from these tags, and those on adults through research we help support, is dramatically expanding scientific knowledge about white shark migrations. And the visitors we reach with shark conservation messages are becoming strong advocates for these threatened predators.
We’re still the only aquarium in the world ever to keep a young white shark for more than 16 days. Our three other sharks have been with us for up to six months—though there’s no guarantee how long this shark will be here. As members, you’ll have exclusive viewing opportunities. We’ll open early for you and your guests at 9 a.m. over Labor Day weekend.
Your support helps us achieve these major accomplishments and inspire conservation of the oceans. Many thanks.
Learn more about our new white shark.
