Hi DirtyBarfers,
Decided to put this here rather than in group rides as this planned route is about 30% dirt road.
I plan to gently explore these roads that I've not been on before. This route is a mish-mash of recommendations from Tom Dillenbeck at Moore & Sons, Doc Wong and rsrai- two of whom are definitely reliable sources and one might be a bit dodgy :laughing
I'll probably be going out early as I need to be back home by midday or I'll get castrated. Or even worse not allowed out riding :cry.
But probably not the 'dawn raid' that I did last week. :loser
Anyway- let me know if you're interested in coming out. I'll post what I find like I did last week, OK?
later :burnout

Dude, I see your posts, and you are making me want a motard. I am going to tell a friend of mine who rides a KLR. He is not a BARFer, but maybe he might be interested.........
Damn Thump, Im missing out on some good Motard fun! Have fun Sunday and report back.

<--interested
of the 70% non-dirt, is that all asphault? I ask, cuz my dr has street legal knobbies (MT21). and ive been wearing them down practicing wheelies on my block :)
damn they suck on the freeway though. maybe ill truck it down to the starting location.

Some of it is shitty asphalt (the kind I like) and some of it I've never ridden before, hence I called it an exploration ride.
Where are you coming from?
I run soft MT60s and I know what you mean about running anything even vaguely knobby on tarmac for any distance.

im coming from San Francisco, i dont mind trucking the bikes to non-asphault. there is only a 1% chance that i'd ride my dr on the freeway down there anyways. i'll borrow drzs ramp since he doesn't ride if it rained in the last week ;)
guess i need to put on my mirrors & turn signals.
sounds like fun, ill see if my neighbor with the same bike as me wants to come too.

don't forget that this is a) an EARLY ride- for me at any rate!! b) I'm exploring- I can't tell you yet if all these roads are paved or even open.
I CAN guarantee you that Summit Rd and Loma Prieta road are a mixture of dirt and tarmac that might as well be dirt. If you definitely want to hit dirt immediately, then truck to the junction of Highland and Mt Bache and head for Loma Prieta summit and Summit Rd.

early is not a problem, where do you want to meet and what time?
like i said, it's not a big deal for me to pick up you, and then go somewhere near these exploration roads and park the truck.
im not really worried about my knobbies besides the freeway, so any of those roads is going to work for me.

after you get into the boonies in eureka canyon and highland it is shitty pavement that might as well be dirt.

yo rsrai, how come your not coming? your bike is street legal, no?

Okay- if you go up 17, go off at Summit rd, cross over 17 and there's a small patch of dirt pretty much immediately on the left where we can park up a couple of trucks and unload them.
The santa cruz sherriff often parks up there so be good!! :laughing
8.00 am OK for everyone to ride out at 8.15?
We'll skip the section to the north of 17 and just do the stuff to the south.
Sound OK?

pelikan: you can borrow my piece a wood if needed. it's 1' x 2" x 6' long. no metal lips just plain ole hardwood. my bike ain't going nowhere till next week, carb guts just hanging by the cables waiting for parts :( (unless I get time this w.e. to "fix" it some more hahahaha!)

wear whatever you like!!! It's just a ride, not motocross!!!
If you turned up in body armour, a brazilian carnival head-dress and a tutu I'd still ride with ya.
Just as soon as I put the camera back in my bag, that is!!!
