Now, I know I can look around at all the badass motards online. But I would honestly rather see the one's regular folks on BARF have. :barf
Maybe post a few nice pictures, and list the mods you've done. :thumbup
This should be one of the best threads ever. :teeth

You asked about mods?
Okay, so it already had most of the expensive stuff like 17s and stiff, but still long suspension straight out the box.
Like most stock bikes it was pretty rtestricted and lean so the mods are all to aid breathing and keep the torque throughough the rev band.
- supormoto tail can
- airbox cut and opened up
- eps? what eps?
- carb spring shortened 3 turns (stock Mikuni BST 40)
- slide air holes opened up
- needle all the way up
- main jet up to 170
- synthetic oil
That's it.
Oh- I added handguards as they're 1/3 the price of KTM levers!!
And I put that sticky black grip tape on the rad shrouds to I can 'hold' the bike better with my legs.
Okay- now show us yours ;)

do you guys slide the rear of the motards on the street?
what exactly makes a motard a motard?
how do you ride the motards in comparison to a sportbike, ie like at lean angle on the track etc.
They seem like a good bike to learn more on and make your sportbike riding better. As in learning to spin the rear and stuff like that.

Some slide their bikes on the street.
A motard is a bike made to do anything, From track to dirt to billy-goat trails it should do them all. See this thread:

They seem like a good bike to learn more on and make your sportbike riding better. As in learning to spin the rear and stuff like that. A Supermotard is basically a dirtbike with street tires and brakes. The idea is to have a lot of suspension travel to deal with bumps and jumps but also sticky tires and big brakes to deal with race track speeds and braking.
Very experienced riders slide in the turns on the race track, generally using engine braking and clutch to control the slide but you don't HAVE to ride like that to have a "Motard". On the street, Motards are perfect "Hooligan" bikes... ;) :shhh

The front lights came off of a Japan only XR250, they have a model that comes stock like that.
I did so much work to that bike. It had an Erion can and was super loud and fun as hell to ride. The only reason I don't cry about beeing so foolish as to sell it is that it's in Cuba. I sold it to a dude named Howdey Kirkbride, he emails me periodicly to tell me how rad it is having that bike on the island. That's pretty kewl.

Not so experienced riders slide the back sometimes too. I'm amazed at how a 55hp motor can spin out a sticky 160 sometimes.
I'm also usually quite surprised when it happens, but I'm learning!! It can be underwear recycling time when it happens, but the more I ride the motard in the loose, the more in control of it I feel at a fast pace on the goat roads.
Gotta say that it's not too comfortable on freeways, but it's still the funnest bike I've ever owned.

Actually I had that same color scheme on an XR650l as well and both times it helped sell the bike. A woman saw my XR650l on ebay and pretty much made he husband buy it for her. What caught her eys was the zebra skin.
I originally did it as kida a joke on the whole Camarro-white trash thing and then one day at the coffee shop I watched two UCSC cuties (they were not YET lezbians) stroke the seat and giggle. After that all my bikes got the fuzzy zebra skin.:teeth ;)

Wasup! Tight forum! Makes me want to dump my whole bank account in one of these things! I plan on buildin' a moto of my own(either a DR650 or XR/XRL). I just wanted to know how much a set of new or used 17's would run me. Where can I get em' ? Thanks for any info!!!
How bout' that Schwarzenegger, we're in good hands yeah' ?
:tsc
New wheels will run you $1200-$1500, you can get away with using your stock hubs and just buy rims and spokes for around $650.
Used, I would look on ebay.
I've bought two sets of wheels for my xr650r. First set I had made by a local builder. Cost me $1400. The worst part about it was the nipples began to rust after a few months. I was pissed.
Second set I ordered from CWC in the UK. Even with shipping included it was around $1100 US for the set, and the nipples are not rusting.

caveat: This was a while back, so there may be cheaper wheels available in the US now.

with the lc4, you may want to raise the forks in the tubes 10-15mm or so. did wonders on my bike, both with high speed weave, and the tendency of the front to push/slide. just a suggestion if you havn't tried it. nice bike!

Scotts steering damper, Big Gun full pipe w/ quiet baffle, Kehin FCR 41MM,heavy road springs tuned by aftershocks,320 Braking disk and a 6 piston Beringer brake, with Nissin/magura master cylinder. Its fucking FUN!!! Way easier to ride than a 748. I was at a shoot for history channel and rode 84. I have never cornered so fast. I'm embarased I cant ride my street bike that that. One thing I FUCKING HATE is the center stand after a long ride I cant pull it up... and oh yeah a gas guage would have been nice as I ran out of fuel on 880 in lane 2 today. oh and I want mine to be as pretty as some of yours:teeth P.S Aftershocks your damn stickers dont stay on!!

Thump you rode 10K on that nut buster of a seat!? You should change your name to 'ass & balls of steel' or something.
I just got my lc4 sm and have only ridden it a few times now but 150 miles a day is about all I can handle right now, and that's with the 'comfort seat.' The rest of the bike ~ fun, fun, fun, but my butt seriously needs to toughen up a bit so I can put some miles on this thing.

New rear rotor and Dunlops. I should have taken my time in breaking in the tires properly. But instead I got on the gas too hard in a hard turn and ended up in a highside. Forget about my injuries! The steel braided line of my Magura Hydrolic Clutch became pinched when the bike landed on the hand guards.

It's a fun ride and the bike doesn't need much since it comes with quality components. Just a little carb adjustment, exhaust, pro taper bars and I'm pretty happy with it. The stock tires are getting chewed up fast so new rubber is on the way.
