Hello,

Well... most of you know that I sold the RC51 and was in the market for a bike to Motard.

I came across a nice Yamaha WR400 and a deal that was pretty decent too. It is a 1999 model with maybe 1200 miles / give or take a thousand.

It is all stock with a couple of aftermarket "thingy's" added. The bike runs strong and has started on the first kick each and every time.

Still there are a few things I would like to ask the forum.

I would like to add a cut-off switch to the bike. Since it does not have a key I would like to add another bit of security other then a lock. Where would I splice a wire to act as an ignition cut-off?

It is already a street legal bike but the "Baja" kit just doesnt seem to cut it for me. The rear light is sort of dim and it just doesnt seem to have that quality appearance. I wouldn't mind keeping the kit but I could also change it out for something different.

It has a ICO computer but I dont know how it works. Can someone copy the operations manual to this thing and forward it to me? I will eventually have to recalibrate it for the Motard set-up.

This thing is a wheelie machine!:wow My RC51 was also but this thing is radical. I have not done alot of riding on singles so I dont know exactly what to expect. But now after about o week of ownership I am getting used to it and I am really starting to have fun.

I was shocked that at about 3/4 throttle and a small hump in the road will cause this bike to wheelie in third gear. Also 2nd gear power wheelies, (without clutch) are to be expected.

First gear almost seems unnessessary since the bike has so much torque. Do you guys use first gear for the street?

Anyway, I already got some info from Scuderia on wheels and brakes and gearing for my Yamy. I hope to get it motarded soon and tear up the twisties.

Sweet bike. I tend to use 1st gear a lot, mostly power wheelies at intersections, but don't tell my mom :thumbup

I had the same issue with a dim tail light, one cheap thing to try and putting in a good quality LED bulb. It will draw less power and may be brighter (the plastic on the tail light may make give it a weird effect though).

btw, your in sf, we should go ride sometime. I know some bumpy roads off of 3rd st. (just don't break down)

:thumbup woo hoo!!

try an led bulb in the back- they're vibration resistant and bright.

raise the gearing by fitting a smaller rear sprocket - you have dirt gearing on it at the moment, hence the insane wheelies. If you're going to run 2 sets of wheels, perhaps put a smaller sprocked on your 17" and keep a spare chain of the correct length for easy switching.

For anto theft? Never seen a dirt bike with a keyswitch worth shit anyway. Big lock and chain when it's parked up, disklock for days out.

Computer? No idea!

Looks great though!! Congratulation :teeth

It has an ICO computer? These are for Enduro racing (they calculate average speed, distance, possibles, resets,...) and are totally useless for the street.

I'll buy it from you!

...or I can exchange your ICO with a trailtech (http://www.trailtech.net/computer.htm) and some $$$

HAve you looked at Thumpertalk's WR426 Motard project (http://207.44.228.67/bike/pages/prj_01wr426.htm)?

Make sure this part has been done on your WR, it will totally change it! :thumbup
- Pull the insert in the exhaust
- Open the airbox (cut some of the lid)
- Cut-down the throttle-stop

Miguel,

Your WR looks a lot like my street-legal YZ400F when I bought it a year ago! It is now rsrai's bike but it doesn't sound like he rides it very often :(

looks clean :thumbup I have an extra CR style kill button if you want but no idea where to wire it exactly on the yammie. I wouldn't worry about the lights etc. too much as long as they work, there's other mods need to thnk about ie. hand guards, chain guard, plate, etc.

and watch out for joebar and the ICO! :laughing that's what you want to run enduros. the trail tech less so. both are a pita to figure out resets etc. on.

Cool dude! Drop by anytime. Saw the bike huh? I am pretty psyched about it. I will be driving to SoCal this weekend to get a trailer I won off of eBay. I look forward to riding and learning stuff from you guys soon.

Hello,

I am currently between places but I am either in SF or Pacifica. I live on Palmetto Ave in Fairmont West. Yeah... lets get a crew of us together for coffee in North Beach or something.

Sound good? Maybe we can set a date.

good! dumping sucks but in the dirt / mud is way more preferable than unforgiving pavement any day.
