View Full Version : How to do a 180

Basically, the trick is to sit on the bike, burn the rear tire quickly and just enough to slide it 180 degree to face the bike the opposite direction.
Anyone here knows the technique to this trick?

From what I've seen, lean the bike way over, snap the throttle and pop the clutch... it's clearly something you should learn WELL on a dirt bike first.
Are you going to try it??? PAH-LEEZ let me watch!!!

Should I apply any front brake?
Are there any dirt bike rental company in the Bay area?

OMG, I think it is time for some serious intervention.
Can you do burnouts already? Your last question leads me to believe that you do do not.
Would you ever attempt a burnout without the front brake securely holding the front wheel still?
Anyway, before anybody gets killed here, or sends their bike hurtling through any parking lot, I think you should learn the basics of a burnout before you try to turn that thing in any direction while IN a burnout.
Anyway, to do a burnout, hold the front brake lever firmly, and while holding in the clutch in first gear, turn the throttle. Depending on the type of bike you have, condition of tires, etc., you will have to determine at what rpm your tires will spin. To be on the safe side, rev it to 5000+ rpm, and while HOLDING THE BRAKE FIRMLY, release the clutch. The tire should spin with no problem. If it does not, rev it a little higher and try it again. If you wanna start at a lower rpm, by all means go ahead.
Now once you've mastered the burnout, then you can start thinking about moving the bike around. You should be able to move the bike around just by moving the bike using your feet. preferably with both feet touching the ground, unless you wanna dismount, lean the bike SLILGHTLY, if at all, and push it with your body.
Anyway, goodluck, and please be careful. :D

dude :eek defiantly try that on a small dirt bike first, if you tried that on a street bike w/out the front brake you would loop it so fast you wouldn't know what happened.
practice some burnouts & work your way up

Are u trying to be like that guy on the XMS trailer? The one who pulled a mini 360 burnout into a 12'o clock? That's pretty sick! I think u should practice on a dirt bike first.

Yeah that's the video, bad ass trick.
This is a discussion of a trick, I appreciate all the comments regarding the trick from which I will learn whether I should attempt it or not.
Some people are making too many assumptions. :rolleyes

Good lord, you guys act like this isn't a Squids Anonymous section. We all learned Mr. K is pretty squidly from his friend looping his R1:twofinger
But really though a 180 Burnout isn't hard, doing 360's is when it starts to become a problem. To do a 180 just do a rolling burnout and turn you bars. There's a lot of different techniques to doing RB's but that's a different question. Just get good at doing straight line rolling burnouts and a 180 will just come naturally.

I think hes talking about a 180 like in the XMS trailer not just turning around while doing a rolling burnout...where the fool just like in 1 second spins the bike around...that right there takes alot of normal burnouts...then alot of rolling burnouts and even rulling burnout donuts i would say...that 180 switch back thing looks nuts...either way you gonna have to do all the burnouts above before you get that one down...so start at the beginning. And im not saying dont try it if thats what you want to do but...its gonna be alot harder than you think and you need to get the feel of your bike more with normal types of burnouts first. But yes if you do try it...please get it on video tape :D .

note to self,
stop reading khuongoikhuong's posts that start out "how do you? and why should i wear this?" etc...
just makes me nervous :twofinger
I'm j/k by the way, if you have questions ask them, remember there is no such thing as stupid questions, just stupid squids :twofinger
hello my name is ken..and i used to be a stupid squid.. :twofinger

Assumptions isn't so bad, it's off-topic unecessary comments that's disappointing. I'm serious about every question I post so when there are replies I hurry to go read and it sucks if someone just post "dude you're stupid"
Anyway, I went out to try it yesterday. That trick is almost impossible for me, but I did try a little bit of rolling 180. Basically, I roll to 10mph, lean sharply left and burn a little rubber by throttle and clutch, the rear end slide a few feets bringing the bike around a little, there's a lot more practice to bring it all the way around. I think this kind of practice gives you a lot more confidence around the corners.

let me know if you want me to film your attempts :twofinger maybe this time i'll use that new zoom feature i've been hearing so much about on the camcorders :rolleyes
for the 180, just jam your foot down, lean the bike over and do a burnout. gotta have mad throttle control though cause i don't think they use any brakes doing that. better get used to flickin up burnouts on the fly. maybe try 15 degrees, then 30, 45, 60, and so on till you hit 180.
just remember that the more squidly stuff you do, the more your bike isn't going to handle the corners cause things get tweaked ever so slightly when you drop it. :D

I second the dirt bike idea. Mr. K's bike won't be long with plastics!
how about just starting from a standstill first like others have suggested. just know that once the weight of the bike gets past a certain angle there's no way in h you gonna' hold it up unless you get it to hook up a bit and self-correct to ride it out. hopefully. can't see how this "drill" will help you in the corners though other than how to jump off.
oops ps. also I think you are headed into a high side get off soon.

Yep you may highside but all stunters crash so thats nothing new....i hope to learn rolling burny donuts without touching my feet down here soon and i expect to at least lay it down 3 times or so learning. Khoung...say bye bye to your nice bike and hello to stuntin!!!...no i need to go buy my third subframe...lol...:D

No pain no gain, my bike isn't nice anymore, I looped a wheelie, dropped a few times from endo and one low sided. After all, I'm very happy with my progress. All this stunting is not only fun, it's enhance your riding skill.

Damn khuongoikhuong, you ae more squidly then I thought. You should come out and ride with us so we can get some cool crashes on tape! lol

have you dropped it yet in these atempts at the 180? its cool that you are trying despite what everyone else has said. i would try more than just wheelies but my bike is just too damn pretty.
btw the wheelies are getting better.:D

To do the 180, I have to be able to lean the bike pretty low and I can't, maybe not yet. But I was able to make the rear slide in a turn, not too much but so far, I like, still practicing.
GixxerMan, if you're getting good at wheelies it's time for endo!!

my endos are about 2-3 inches. i am super scared of them. i feel like the bike is going to want to spin around on me. the bike is just too damn pretty. haha i just dont want to drop it and hear the wife bitching at me about it.i passed her while she was in the car the other day and popped a little wheelie and i heard her bitching for about 2 hours. thats after my freind was telling her about me almost dumping it doing a rolling burnie outside of starbucks but thats another story.:twofinger

Hey khuongoikhuong, now you got me wanting to do a 180. I have not stunted in a couple weeks but when I get back out I got a few things I want to work on and one of them will be the 180. I'll let you know what happens, hopefully we will go out riding on Sunday if Port gets his plastics back.

I want to see your practice! Are you going to practice it with your group? I want to bring my camera and play it in slow motion afterwards. If it's a good day I'll want to work on my 11 o'clock wheelies!
