tried em after work tonight, or should i say this morning? rode around the block (very large block) and got the tires and brakes at least semi-warm. went back to the station and rode around a little bit, ea. time stopping next to the pumps. 1st time, i couldn't tell if it came up. 2nd time, i hear a very small *clack* noise. it just progressed from then on. at the end of the "session" i got it to a reported :twofinger big which equates to about a foot and a half or so. even landed a few w/ my feet firmly planted on the pegs instead of having the feet off and trying to keep the bike balanced. was getting semi-consistent on the height too. some instances were kinda hairy cause i braked while on a crack in between the cement so the front slid a good foot or 2.

pretty stoked considering i learned to stoppie semi-high (for a beginner) in 20min. :D too bad i didn't bring my vid cam. was kind those impromptu mini-squid fests things

btw, this was in the bro's R6. :twofinger

i'd try to wheelie but no need to wear out the 520 chain prematurely.

nice to have a bike where you don't have to worry about while be squidly... i've tried to do stoppies but i'm too worried about my bike everytime i try - nothing. i guess thats why the only thing i do try alot are wheelies

:burnout :burnout great progress Mstingray

Congrats MStingray!!!!!!! The MOST important thing to remember when starting out is to always get your weight forward(the more weight you have forward the less brake you need) and make sure your tire is warm("slippys" are bad :D). There are many other things to watch out for but those 2 IMO are the big ones when learning. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Post some pics!!!!!!

I found that it wasn't too hard to learn a stoppie. (it took me about 3 or 4 tries to get it at the balance point or "the point of another few inches higher then your F***ED".
I think the way that I learned is to just don't be scared of it. I mean it's only throwing your back tire up as high as you can get it without falling on your face and dumping your bike right? He he. :twofinger

For some reason i cant do stoppies. I tried to do it occasionally and for some reason, the bike just stops. It doesnt look smooth. Any pointers? Or am i not braking hard enough?

what i found that works is that you get the bike up to make 15-20mph. once you get it up to speed you get on the brakes, while putting your body weight on the front of the bike, once you're body is up front you squeeze the brakes a little more. do it a few more times and each time depress the front brakes alittle more till you hear a "clack" when the rear tire lands. i also squeeze the clutch lever so when the bike lands back down, the chain doesn't stretch as much.

i haven't gotten it to the point where i feel like i'm going to fall foward but w/ a little time & practice, i might get it almost as high as instance. :D

need ta try these more on the kat once i get it running :p

Congrats, M!

The funny thing, for me, is that I used to be able to bust stoppies on my Kawi, but for some reason they worry me too much on the Zook. I've been managing to hover the rear lately rolling-endo style, though... not high yet, but I'm lifting at about 30 now, instead of 5 MPH.

The MOST important thing, IMO, is to work them up gradually and not to try to balance them too quickly.

Glock, think of it as two steps.......

the first is to get your forks to compress with alittle brake.....

then you give more brake to bring up the back.

Good Luck.

One day you'll be like Steveco and be able to do them "in his sleep". :D

grip the tank with your knees hard. throw your weight forward as you sqeeze the break simultaniously. do at least 30mph. good way to practice is on the xbox. gp superbike game. best squid game ever.
