I'm thinking about replacing the original carb with some after market carb like Keihin or Mikuni...

Anyone any experience with either one, and if so... What model and Jets did u use?
I wanna run this with a WB E-Series exhaust and the smog block of kit :teeth

THX for any advice :confused

Also, take a look at the FCR Application List at www.sudco.com

There is an FCR41 kit listed for the XR650L. They probably also offer a Mikuni TM40 kit as well.

Hi Rich! Maybe you can sell the TM40 to SuperMotard. I heard that he's looking for a carb for his XRL;)

OK... Maybe its just me but look at the prices on this page for the Mikuni carbs for the 650L

http://xrsonly.com/carburetion/carb_3.htm24$- 40$ for a carb :confused
compare to the other models on that page as well with the Keihin here...

Em I missing something? I'll give them a call and ask what this is about and update this... the KEIHIN FCR CARBURETORS seems a bit $$$ with 525$ Most Mikuni and Keihin Carbs I've seen so far go for under 300$

OK I talked to XR only and the parts for 24.95$ and 38.95$ are smog block of kits... FYI

First off the white bros pipe is junk. The end cap is thin and strips out. The big gun sounds better and the end cap is billet. I think the tuning disks is a load of crap. I put the 41mm keihin on my 650L and had to jet it a bit. I still can't get it to idle right. Mostly cause i'm lazy. I was told my McAllister Motorsports that for a carb that big the 650L needs a better cam and maybe a bigger displacement. Things to think about. Don't get me wrong, It has gobs more power that stock. Tuned right would be even better.

Hmmm OK... Sounds good to me. Big Gun / E-Series What ever gives better performance.

The Idea now is getting...

1. High comp Piston 10.25:1 U still can drive with 91 octane
2. Hot cam
3. 41mm Carb... Dunno yet which... thinking about a TM with accel pump... Mikunis are a bit cheaper then the Keihin carbs
4. good exhaust.

In a nutshell redo the whole engine... If done right it suppose to bring somehwere between 15 - 20 pony's at the wheel :teeth

Since my bike needs a new piston and topend job anyways i figured replacing it with the high comp one
So we'll see how it turns out. If anyone has some recomendations on specific parts
Let me know

I put a Mikuni TM41 on my XR650l and it gave me a little better response. When I put the cam from the XR600 power-up kit in, it was a whole new bike. Lotsa top end.

In the end I should have saved the $ I spent on the Mikuni and just stayed with the stock CV card and the bajadesigns jet kit. I ran a WB pipe and loved it.

Fun bike, sold it to a cool chick who wanted to smoke her husband on his stock XR650l. :laughing

Don't waste money on the HRC cam. You can get the same grind from XR's only for much cheaper. Brok @ McAllister Motorsports knows a bunch about 650L's. Very informitive. 916-408-0758

Agreed - XR's cam is only $150 vs $>500 for the HRC.

I've got the Mikuni flatside on my thump. Throttle response is greatly improved and it is definitely best bang for the buck as far as carbs go. However, if you want to buy the ultimate, go for a pumper carb.

Back to cams... the XR's cams do not use the auto-decompressor. Anyone have any experience with how this works out on the e-start only XRL's?
