View Full Version : DVD -r +rw-rw+r Whats the diff

I simply want to burn some Movies and maybe some PS2 games, which should I use, Whats the differences. Any makes and models of burner I should aim to get.

Hrm, I don't know about PS2 games, but I can tell you the difference. (You can probably do a search on google for PS2 DVD-RW or something and find a bunch of hits).

Anyway, + and - are two different formats, one is a sony one and one is a philips one I beleive. So they are competing for the market together, the media is a little different for both, but they both claim to work on all dvd players.

The - media tends to be a little cheaper than the + media, but the + media is known to be more compatiable with older video dvd players (the ones connected to your TV). But lately I don't really find a difference, me, myself I have a +/- Combo DVD recorder that I picked up from Dell for 200 dollars (The TDK one).

But we just have to watch and see who wins the format war.

ones more toward data, the other toward video, i dont know which ( i get them mixed up)
however, there are hybrids now that burn both + and -.(i think sony makes one)

I remember TechTV doing a special on this and their conclusion was ...

... ain't gonna make a lot of difference, though + has been known to hold up a bit better over time :)
