Is there a smaller maybe not so competitive class of Motard racing?

I read in this months Motocross Action magazine (mcgraths CRF450 :drool) and it mentioned AMA would sanction only 450 and Open class races. So is that what club events are mostly consisting of now?

And lately I've been considering doing the Rocket Ranch class, and trying out one of those Derbi 125's. Anyone have feedback on that?

Is there a smaller class to race in and what all would I need to go out there and have fun.

I thought the Derbi's were 50's. and that would be the cheapest supermoto / race class out there.

if you want near zero competition on track then do the battletrax which is like auto-x ~ one vehicle on track at a time. if they ever come back that is, I haven't been following them.

derbi is a 50 like max said. i think the stroker kit can pump it up to 75 maybe 80cc.

you can always buy an xr50 and just do the xr50 racing. thats probably cheaper than derbi.

also i have wwitnessed recently some pretty pimp ttr-125s. look in joebar's supermoto photo thread, i posted one with 17s.

You can go my route into semi-motard racing, xr100 @ Praire City.

I'm getting my bike ready for the next races.

And the derbi's are 50cc 2smokes, I think.

What about a 250 two smoker running in this a 450 class, is that legal?

I'd really like to be able to utilize that track in stockton. It's so close.. Prarie City isn't THAT far, but it's not as close as stockton. I've seen that little kart track too, it's pretty damn nice.

What are your thoughts on say a 97 RM250 for racing in the 450 class Astrocreep?

2 stokes have narrow powerband, no engine braking,... I'd definitely get a 4 stroke if I was racing supermoto...

If your very good at throttle control and sensing traction you will do ok with it...but you will not win with it.

Throw some street tires on it and race in sportsman....and find out for yourself. You will have more fun on a bike than you ever had before.

Do the Rocket Ranch class! I did it last week and both learned more and had more fun than any prior class or trackday. The Derbis are 50cc, but plenty to learn on. In fact, it helps to have no power- you make a mistake and it takes forever to get back up to speed!

BattleTrax is back. Oct. 26 will see the "NorCal Buell BattleTrax Challenge Cup" take place in the East Bay. Sponsored by McGuire H-D/Buell this event will feature two separate tracks, bracket and top time competition, classes for everything with two wheels, and probably more track time than you've ever had. Details soon
