Linus walks on a leash and goes up to every dog in the park. I'm not sure what he thinks he is--Certainly not a cat, as he doesn't do well alone. He also sucks on his paw (very cute).

hello dog and cat owning barfers:
i've always wanted to know if the dogs and cats get along w/each other. i know my dog barks at cats but wonder if they ever fight. i think Yuki gets lonely sometimes and i should get her a cat friend (another sharpei would be too high maintenance translating to less gas money for me). is it possible to have your dog make pals cats?

thanks,

Hello fstop...I had cats and dogs only 2 times in my life, and both times I got the cat after my dog. I think that as long as the cat is a kitten and the dog has a pretty cool temper everything should be fine.

BTW my cat is the boss around the house :) :)

thanks,
j I think its possible if you get the dog as a puppy and raise it with cats. That way, they know the cat is not something to chase. Also, as a pup, the dog gets smacked a few times by the cat(s) and it knows that it shouldn't f*ck with them. Before my dog, I had two cats. They both put him in place as a pup and now he doesn't mess with them. In fact, he tries to be friends with them but they snuff him. After getting the dog, we got another cat and these two get along fairly well. Sometimes the new cat will even groom the dog.

Any other time I've tried to introduce a dog to cats (that is, other than when it was a puppy), it's been disastrous (or humorous depending on your perspective).

That's Baby (so called because he hates the rain, but, seems like ANY Pit hates the rain).

Hmm, don't know about smart, but, trainable, definitely. Normally if you want to get him to do a new trick, you only have to get him to do it 2-3 times and it 'sticks' and he'll remember it months later even if you haven't asked him to do it again.

Getting him to jump through take-offs only took a few go's...

Lousy guardogs tho, both of them. The media hype is 99% BS - all the Pits I've ever met LOVE people, HATE other dogs. Lucy is majorly dog aggro, but is an attention-whore for any human. Baby is just an attention/food whore, doesn't seem to even notice other dogs.

Yeah, I'm told it's kind of rare and they're called parti-eyes, but not sure why.

Funny, everyone asks if she's a wolf or hybrid. . .

I actually asked the same question. I got her from a Northern Dog rescue in Salinas, so her history is really unknown. They said judging from her appearance (not as wooly as some) and small size (a svelte 38 lbs.) that she's likely a true purebreed. Explaining that she looks more like an early Siberian, before they were bred with Malamutes to get bigger Huskies. Doesn't really matter either way . . . to me, she's just my goofy little girl.:p

Just thought i let you guys/gals know that if you ever need a dog house for your dog (or significant other:twofinger ) i be happy to help out. I also have a dog house for sale. Its 2 feet by 2 feet square, my puppy is an indoor dog, so i have no use for it. Its never been used. Anyways back to building a dog house. I am not trying to get rich by building them. I charge for the material and $30 to $50 to make you a custom home for your beloved animal. Anyone interested can PM me.... Will post a picture of dog house when i get it scanned. Sorry, still living in the old 35 mm era....

Your puppies and kitties and turtles and everything are absolutely precious! What I would give to have a dog (can't on the rental property I live on) again. They are all wonderful creatures and fabulous companions. I walk my cat to the dog park on a leash (Linus loves the dogs and the leash) and even on a bad day, I always come back feeling better--after he's rubbed noses with doggies. Go figure! Everyone knows Linus the cat who walks on a leash--it's really quite adorable.

My motto (as I have never had an animal that wasn't sweet and friendly) is to never skimp on the LOVE and PRAISE, feed them reasonably for their health (don't overfeed or give table scraps--well, once in a while for a treat only), give them plenty of toys and chew things, and exercise. They will love you for their lifetime.

What a GIFT everyone of them is to us. I call them all little examples of God's love. We are blessed to have them. Treat 'em right.

BE WELL and RIDE SAFELY!

Sueki

Linus, my cat who walks on the leash to the dog park has a favorite friend who is an "Aussie" Shepherd. Linus rubs up against her and plays, and chirps at her in greeting. It's too cute.

Yes, I have been very lucky with German Shepherds. They are easy to train because they are so smart. So are Labs (any color) that is why both breeds are used a lot for seeing-eye, companion and search and rescue. You will see many different breeds used for all the above occasionally (because every once in awhile a dog of any breed or mixed breed stands out) but those two breeds are known to be very bright and intuitive.

Personally, I have found that most of the smartest dogs I have encountered have been good old "mutts". They are terrific!

My least favorite breed are terriers just because they tend to be hyper, yappy, and more difficult to train. Just my experience, is all.

No, but instinctually, they know how to shit in every single corner of your house. They're also pretty good at grabbing your keys and dragging them to the deepest darkest regions under your bed. Usually right next to a pile of dried up shit.

One way to solve that problem is to have a circular house that has only on corner with litter box.

Just my experience, is all.

once again, i agree. :)

post pictures of your kitty on leash. that is TOO CUTE. how cool would it be to have a cat like a dog?

I don't wear fur, either. I do, however have a rather nice animal pelt above my computer monitor right here... (I used to have a blanket warmer thing that was made of stitched animal skins. Very warm and nice, but it was from the old country; I wouldn't buy such a thing in a store over here as I would rather "get" the pelt myself.

If you kill the animal, why not use it all? I don't appreciate people who kill the animals and just take the pelts, but I have no problem in utilizing the maximum amount of the animal.

I am actually not from the country itself, but both my parents were born there. They were from Ravni which is near Krško, which is near Novo Mesto.

I went there last summer and I know a fair amount of people there (God I love Slovenia). I plan to go there next summer if I have enough time and money. I will spend some more time in Ljubljana because that is where things are going down. Mayhaps we should see if we can get something going?

I'd like to get him to pose inside my helmet like Alan's cat.

My family's Belgian Malinois died a couple of years ago so if anyone knows any breeders in California pls PM me. Belgians are similar to German Shepherds and often used in police/rescue work. Ours looked like a Shepherd but had a beautiful red coat instead of tan. We rescue adoped him because he wasn't tough enough for the cops (poor baby!).

They are the best! I love both the names!

I had a funny incident over the weekend. My Linus got out the door (inside cat --uses a leash) and ran up a neighbor's evergreen tree (this was a first) and didn't come down for 2 hours. My girlfriend (F4isportbiker) and I tried everything to coax him down--I even tried to climb up and get him--and he went higher. Finally, my neighbor got him and brought him home. Needless to say, I spent last night making cookies for them (the neighbor and his two boys who were like little monkeys climbing all over that tree trying to get to Linus) because it really became a fiasco for 2 hours. Prior to finding him in the tree, I couldn't find him and started to feel panicky because he doesn't disappear like that.

Linus now has tree sap all over his paws and fur and is not a happy camper. I put butter on his paws to soften it so he can clean them--but that sap is resisent. Hopefully, a good lesson. Just thought I would share that. Brushing is helping, but he is walking around shaking his paws like a cat does when he has water on them. Too funny!

For future reference. Only use butter or olive oil (mayonaise is OK too) to soften tree sap on animals--never use chemicals or even homeopathics unless a vet says you can use it. This stuff is toxic to animals. ;)

well at that time it wasnt that old. It was just kinda sitting and still trying to recognize at everything that was around him. It was alot easier to take a picture then cuz all it did was stand there and move a bit trying to explore..

Now the sucker is like a lightning bolt. Theres like 4 smaller dogs ive seen him around with and he just runs with them. Its like running of the dogs. and hes behind them. Damn dog just runs between them. Its funny cuz it was all quiet the last time i saw him. now this sucker is all active and its STILL THE SAME size.. u know when you see something that small with so much energy .. its kinda weird.. ill see if i can get apicture this weekend.
