someone stole my setup :( but I will rebuild it just need to get some straps and buckles, new heated gear thermostat, etc. actually I'd love to build up a new supermoto / dual sport based ride. my 230 could do the job, but slowly though and I have to change the oil at 500 miles. forget interstates and mixing it up with 18-wheelers. hmmm.

Wow, maybe we need a VFR Forum?
Couple of nice SV's and a stonking FJR. Nice!
Me, I have a 2002 BMW 1150RT
Bike has BMW side cases (hard)
Givi top box
Secdom windscreen (must for rain rides)
Heated hand grips
Wired for electric vests
Automcom (so I can talk to my girlfriend, make and receive cell phone calls, listen to CD's and radio.......)
On the way:
Reverse pattern shift kit (drives me crazy going from my sport bikes to my BMW, so I decided to switch it too)
Adjustable telelever so I can some clearance for more spirited rides.
Ohlins front and rear (the stockers lasted about 14,000).
While I prefer the D220's I am going to look real hard at Avon tires this weekend at the bike shoe, becasue I do like to ride in the rain.
Gear - Typically full leathers (Spidi) with back protector, unless I am going overnight, then I have Hein Geriche jacket and Joe Rocket Pants $40 at Cycle Salvage :)

Dang!
Most of you are really set up.
I've got a 99 R6 with a new Marsee magnetic tank bag.
Not ideal for sport touring I suppose, but I can carry my camera,
shirt, food, and water.
Perhaps I need a second bike. Now there's an idea!

Here is mine, is not much of a set-up since my bike is no sport-tourer and I've got no hardbags. But the thing does more milage than ypur average BMW.

2 cargo nets and two bungee cords
Eureka sleeping bag
Coleman sleeping bag superstuffed into an REI compression bag
Throttle rocker, which I never really use.

Another great thing about sport touring.
I stopped in Davenport a couple of weeks ago and a guy approached me regarding my tire repair kit. His girlfriend's bike was stranded in the mountains. The kit worked wonderfully and she was on the road in no time. Pretty cool stuff from BMW. Do other bikes come with these?

02 ZX-12R with 5500 some miles. Ride up to Seattle and back... 4 500 mile days, did ok.
Gear wise, just Tourmaster saddle, tail and tank bags, Helimot 1-piece suit and tourmaster rain gear. Held leather gloves for nice weather, goretex alpinestars for wet weather. 208ZR's front and rear.. might go 010's front and rear next time around.
Wish list:
- Throttlemeister so I can stretch the ol right paw periodically
- Corbin seat. prolly custom so its less of an ass-bucket
- Heli-bars (maaaybe.. not sold on this yet)
- hmmm... that's it. Can't think of anything else I'd want. Stock windscreen is ok. Maybe the Corbin beetlebags hard bags at some distant point, but they're kinda funky... the right bag is only 17L coz its molded around the stock exhaust.

- Stock F4i with foot pegs lowered to stock position.
- Gerbing electric jacket outlet.
- throttle rocker.
- Marsee expandable tank bag.
- Tail locker tail bag.
- Camelbak back pack.
- bungee net.
Dainese two piece leather suit + Sidi vertebras + Helimot TLV + Teknic Violator pros in summer.
Winter gear:
Spidi H2Out jacket with liner (3 season of wet weather riding, I have never once applied any sealant - no leaks - ever!). The liner that comes with it is pretty good and can withstand upto 50F w/o any problem.
Aerostich pants.
Old Olympia gloves - 3 years old, too much rain riding - they are leaking like a sieve now. I will be getting either a pair of Daytona gloves (from Helimot) or Helds. Or I may cheap out & buy another set of Ultima - hey, it worked ok for 3 years!
Winter: Water proof Goretex backpacking boots if I want to mix up some hiking with riding. Else, water proof day-hiking boots with enough ankle protection.
Gerbing heated liner.
Respro Foggy mask. Learnt about this from a guy in UK on cbrlist, ordered through their US dealer; best $25 I have spent. In addition to preventing helmet fogging, the foggy mask also acts as a wind protector, eliminating a face mask. Also, there is no need to replace them every year like the Fogcity shields & there is no refraction effects. I carry both a tinted & a clear shield, so there is no need to spend $30 every year on Fogcity shields!

Da Rig:
On da road:
Y2k VFR800 in the faster and smoother yellow
929 front end (this means forks, brakes (no f*cking LBS!), and front wheel)
Forks revalved w/RaceTech valves and LE springs
HeliBars (gotta have 'em 'cause the stock 929 bars are too low and hit the instruments)
RC51 clutch master (so both the brake and clutch masters match)(Donoman bought the stock VFR CM thus paving the way to make this happen, thanks Dono)
Custom Galfer brake lines front and rear
Penske rear shock (the double adjustable version)
Computrack alignment (works great on the VFR)
2Bros full exhaust system
PCII (right now it's off the bike as I'm having a love/hate thing with it)
K&N filters (air and oil)
Mags 80/100 watt headlight bulbs
PIAA 910 driving lights
HeatTroller grips and vest temp control
Sargent seat
Givi windscreen
ThrottleMeister
ThrottleRocker
McCruise cruise control
Autocom w/Kenwood GMRS radio
Hawke Oiler
Harris Hugger/chain guard (the hugger should've been included stock)
5 gallon auxiliary fuel tank with totally custom mount and plumbing (for the IronButt type endurance rides)
On me:
Aerostich 1 Piece suit (one for summer and one for winter, thank you eBay)
Schuberth Concept 4 helmet (comped from the manufacturer for services rendered, I probably wouldn't have bought one and found how cool they really are otherwise)
Held gloves in various weights and styles (thanks Helimot for having a killer sale on them)
Aerostich WindTriangle (a very versatile piece of clothing)
Aerostich Electric Vest
Aerostich Triple Digit rain covers (gotta have 'em for ridin' in the rain)
Daytona boots
[edit]Dang! Forgot one of my favorite pieces of gear: BackAlign back brace. This thing will enable just about anybody to ride all day without a sore back or butt. Very highly recommended.
Dang that's a lot of shit. I wonder what it would be like to ride without all of that and go with what we rode in the 70s. I had a lot of fun putting this together and it makes riding more comfortable but sometimes it seems like it's more complicated than it needs to be. Any thoughts?

While I appreciated the ergonomic advantages the Gen-mars provided, the bike's steering changed. Also, on freeway drones, I lie down on the tank & use my abs instead of having any weight on my hands/legs. With the Gen-mars, I started getting shoulder pains due to the different geometry between tank/handlebar. Removed them - I prefer the stock over Gen-mars.
Ofcourse, I should've bought a VFR to begin with - I would've if it was 50 lbs lighter :laughing. I am lusting after a Falco now.
