New Job, Please

Hey all. So, I work at a pretty large computer company here in the Bay and recently I've been thinking about making a move. I know the market is still pretty bad, but my field is usually pretty stable.

I upkeep, maintain and train people on various different Data Collaboration equipment. Primarily video conferencing and conference call equipment, A/V equipment. I also would be interested in IT, but I haven't done any in-depth IT work since college.

I know a lot of our fellow riders out there are in the Technology industry, so if anyone knows of a matching opportunity please let me know. I would also like to be closer related to the motorcycle industry, but I know that it's more of a hobby to work in a bike shop or dealer.

Any input would be appreciated.

Hey my cousin used to work there as an engineer. He used to go from Oregon to Santa Clara all the time for training or something.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into the positions in detail. How are they doing by the way? I know they were kinda in a rut for a while and laying off a lot of people? Obviously, better if they're hiring, though. lol :nerd

I work in Operations... check positions in "about us" and then "careers" section.. there are some positions open.

I guess the Cisco life isn't the greatest if you're looking somewhere else, huh? I'm wondering if you can see if there's any positions available in for video conferencing techs (A/V techs or the like) there. I know here where I work there's a lot that we do and when we use outside vendors for installs, they usually tell us about what they've done for Cisco, etc, etc, so I know they must have some extensive equipment.

Could you please take a look for me?

Life here is cool. Unfortunately, they are not hiring at the moment. Per some of the folks in my metrics group, they'll be hiring within a year or so. At the moment, it's just not happening.

Take a look at WebEx Communications. I know someone within the IT Dept. He may be able to help you out. That's a good company. I wouldn't mind joining them myself.

Yeah, they are a good company. I know a guy that took a job there with the Software developement dept and he used to do the same thing I do. The only thing is that he knows all about that stuff and I guess this job he had here was just intermission for him? Anyhow, yeah, if you could ask your buddy that'd be great! I'll check out their site in a little bit.

Cool. I checked the positions on their site, but it seems like there's nothing on my level. For 'Technology' it's all engineer or director level and for IT it's requiring some stuff I don't have. I'll keep checking.

I actually went to the Santa Clara PD orientation for applicants. Took a tour of the station...did some physical agility tests...and got all my questions answered.

I was very impressed, 5400 a month if you get accepted and sent to Police Academy...then like a G more after.

Retirement plan is called "3% @ 50"... meaning at age 50 they multiply your time in service by 3% (25 years x 3%= 75%) 100k x 3%= 75k a year for the rest of your life!!

Wow, too bad I really dont want to be a cop...or work full time right now. It sounded really good...made me want to give up school.
