View Full Version : Your First Tour Bike
This is a Z2 750 Kaw. Yosh pipes, a sissy bar that hold the pack, fancy white saddle bags:laughing, notice the lack of a wind screen. I rode this from Oakland to Chicago on this trip. I had just shipped it home from Japan. They never sent a Z2 750 to the states. It was very rare;)
This shot was taken in 78....

mine was a 84 Ninja 900 which I rode to LA and back all on Highway 5 a month after I got it.....didn't know what a twisty road was except on/off ramps....
to this day, Ive concluded LA sucks in the 80s and now....

My 1970 CB350. My first touring bike (sorta) and still have it. This was taken back in my college jeans days on highway one below Big Sur.
I took it all over the place, from SLO to San Jose, SLO to LA, up and down the coast a few times, and out to Harris Ranch via Highway 58 from SLO for lunch. It's currently down for an engine rebuild that is taking a bit longer than I'd planned. :shhh

High School in the mid 80's. 6 of us would ride LA to San Diego 2up, then catch a ride with my alchy step sister and her friends @SDSU and then drink ourselves sideways in Tiajuana
... barely freeway legal she died at 16,000 miles. :cry
My gear was a black trench coat, Doc Martins, a beret and a black eye liner pencil.
sad but true.

I travelled all over the North Island of New Zealand on a 1979 Honda XL185S.
Carried my stuff in a backpack. On my back.
Top speed was about 110 km/h, laying flat on the tank, one hand tucked in.
No leathers, armor or any of that other pussy stuff. Well, I wore a Bell Moto III helmet and some Scott goggles for safety.
Boy was I stupid!
