ok, i have synthetic 20w50 oil in my bike right now.

when the bike is cold and i look in the oil window, i don't see any oil. but after the bike is back from a run, the oil shows up.

is this normal?

Yeah, if you are holding the bike straight up and down, you should be seeing oil even when it's cold. :confused After you get done riding, give it a couple of minutes for all of the oil to drain back down before trying to check the level. Let us know what you find!

As you are not riding an Aprilia I would have to agree you should be seeing oil in the window when cold. I mention the Aprilia because believe it or not, you have to check the oil when hot. The owners manual suggests at least a 10 mile ride first. Otherwise the level in the site tube will be inaccurate and you could end up over filling when trying to top off.

Now, there is some useless knowledge for non Aprilia owners.:teeth

Are you looking at the window when the bike is straight up and down?
yes it is straight up when i look at it.

does oil get "cloggy" maybe, or stiff, turn into solid? (i dunno :p) that's the only thing i can think of why i can't see it when it's cold, but then after a ride i can see it.

Keep it vertical for a couple minutes, when it's cold the oil is thicker and probably doesn't have enough time to level out.

Sit on the bike and lean it over to the right for a few seconds, then put it back straight up and down. Sometimes the oil can get stuck up higher in the engine sue to surface tension. That will clear it if that is what is happening in your case.

ya i think it is this because when i tried to tip it and shake it, and the oil came up short, it didn't make it betweeen the 2 lines it's suppose to be on.

after it runs and is warm, the oil is between the 2 lines.

magic oil appears from no where! hehe

not only does the bike have to be vertical, it needs to be on level ground too. very easy to misread.

also, it don't get cold enough round these parts for oil, esp. synthetic, to thicken into a solid. that would be below freezing! though all you skiers and snowboarders sure would dig it :teeth
