Hello,
New to this board and I am here to promote a Bay Area sportbike night. Time and date is Thursday night, March 28th @ 8:00 p.m. Location is the In n Out which is at 237 and 880. Parking lot is big, and location is convienent for everyone from the Bay Area. It is a meet and greet for sportbikers to get together, talk bikes and look at them. And it is free, although of course if you want some In N Out Burgers it will cost a few bucks!
We are now expecting over 50+ sportbikes from various messageboards and Bay Area groups. Number gets a bit larger every few days.
Hope to see you guys there. Stay tuned for updates.

Directions are simple enough. From East Bay take 880 south until you
see exit for 237 coming up. You will see In N Out on the right in the McCarthy Ranch Shopping Center.
S.F. Area take 101 south to 237 Milpitas and you will see In N Out on the left
hand sight near the 237/880 exchange, take McCarthy exit.
South Bay, go to intersection of 237 and 880, most of you should know the area.In 'N Out is located at the McCarthy Ranch Center. Any
questions on directions, just email me or post!

Damn, so they busted it at 10:30? I stayed up after I got off work this morning to work on my car. Didn't go to bed till 2pm, then woke up at 10. I headed out, but got there around 10:30 and there were only about 5 bikes there.

About how many were there earlier?

when the MPD showed up the lot was pretty crowded I didn't get a count, maybe a hundred?, more?

Liquid-R1,
Were you there at the Milpitas In N Out? Didn't see any other '02 R1s besides mine....

Dark Angel,
how tall are you? Were you with one other guy in a leather jacket? I think I might've saw you there....

I think there were more like 50 or so bikes there. The cops told everyone to leave around 9:15 or so. I had just bought food, and they told me I had to leave. I told em 'no' and sat down to eat my food. :finger

I'm only 5'4" but had on my platform shoes! :D So I probably looked more like 5'8". Yeah, I showed up with a friend of mine.

Where were you?

BTW, I'd guess there were closer to 100 bikes there. I was there pretty early and at one point heard a guy counting over 70 bikes and that was before I saw about another 25+ bikes show up.

Wolf,
Sorry about not being able to get back to you earlier. I worked a double shift to get the night off and had no email access.

The bike night was a success and also not a success.
We had a hug turnout, more than expected. When MPD showed up there were about 150 bikes. And believe it or not, groups of riders 5 and 10 deep were still coming.
This is what we had hoped for, a large group of riders who could hang out, talk bikes and look at bikes.
Unfortunately, as many people familiar with the street race scene know, MPD has a job to do. The In N Out alerted the police and requested that those not eating leave. There were a lot of people who were grubbing and that was great. But because some people were not or had not yet, the MPD had to ask them to leave. A large amount of riders (50+) moved to the In N Out by Eastridge. Several groups of riders got lost along the way and a few of us tried to guided everyone there, but with over 100 riders things are tough.

RR cycles were there promoting their BBQ which is a great plan and we hope that just as many if not more attend that function.
As for the Bay Area Bike Nights: We will find another location that will suit the get-together better. This bike night was a trial one, where we could gauge the attendance and riders views. What we heard many times was that the Bike Night was a great thing to let people get together and just hang out. People liked the large parking lot, and that there was no crowded bar or entrance fees. And what was most important, people had fun. Although it would have been great if it could have lasted longer, to have over 100 riders together for a few hours was nice. People were arriving as early as 7:00 PM to hang out. We will find another convenient location and one where we can stay longer without being forced to leave by the PD. The MPD was VERY courteous and was polite to all the riders. We also were very pleased to see that no riders did anything to get us in trouble and that is great.
Bike night will be back..untill then THANKS to all the riders that came and hung out. That is what the Bike Night is all about.
Ride Safe!
Joe

was pretty cool, but same thing happened like the Milpitas IN-N-OUT, instead the SJPD came and politely asked everyone to leave.

I was near the far corner of the parking lot. I have a silver '02 R1. I guess the bikes in that area were mostly redline riders'? If I had known it was you, I would've said 'hi'. :darkangel :D

I was down on the far end too. I remember seeing your R1 cause I was telling my friend how I like how the '02's look.

I was thinking, on nights like that, the BARF stickers would have been cool to identify us. :) I would have felt more comfortable approaching a total stranger if I thought they might be a BARFer. :D

Really??? I saw two other women riders (non-pillion). They were over on the other side of the parking lot from me.

I got there at 8:00pm and left when the MPD showed up. I didn't walk around too much. Mostly just stood by my bike, people watching.

All I have to say regarding last nigh is this

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

That is the 1st amendment of the Constitution of the United States.

I guess it doesn't count if you ride a bike.:rolleyes :rolleyes

No, actually it doesn't count if you're on private property. If we did something like this at a park on a sunday afternoon we'd have no problem. That's my suggestion. Everyone meet at a big park with a nice big parking lot, hang out, play some ball (B and Foot) and just get to know everyone.

Whadaya say?:D

It might be a good idea that next time a B.A.R.F. rep or someone, should RESERVE a spot, like Vasona or some Dam, and if the turnout is expected to be big, get some PERMITS. Just an idea, the old Naval Air Station in Alameda is HUGE, man I mean it's HUGE! And it's just about empty, 'cept for a couple of studios, warehouses, and ships. You could have the biggest party on the west coat there. I'm not kidding.

Anybody heard of Lake Elizabeth in Fremont? Decent size parking lots, lots of grass to play ball or throw the frisbee, and bbq pits to cook up the grub.

just a suggestion!

great ideas! Lake Elizabeth or Vasona Lake is cool. both have bees :teeth . Vasona is like $125 -175 for the reservation and books quickly, but doing so guarantees an area, tables and grill.

what my family does is everyone brings little things for a raffle, the proceeds get carried over every year by the succeeding picnic chair volunteer to secure a spot ad infinitum. My roots in the USA go back to the first Chinese female born in California - "Spanish Mary" of Monterey, Calif :) they have been doing this at places like Alum Rock, Vasona, etc. since way before my time - a nice tradition.

I like Vasona Lake (http://www.parkhere.org/prkpages/vasona.htm), gotta' love them rental canoes too on a hot day!

I can always reserve 4 or 5 tables with string and

don't forget about the parking fee that they hit you up with the moment you drive onto the grounds! somehow they have to pay for the park upkeep, maintenance, security etc.

I think there are public tables, the rez is for a large guaranteed area...

What's that reservoir/lake thing off highway 17 just past Los Gatos? I had to pick up garbage there last summer for community service. Seemed like a nice place.

Edit: Lexington Reservoir. http://www.parkhere.org/prkpages/lex.htm
It's not reservable though, so there's a chance that it might be in use when we get there.

vasona has a prking fee but if u show up in groups of bikes they usually let u split the cost and park in one spot, or i see a lot of them park at the gate and go in.
and u can reserve tables for free unless they are the rented out areas.
