Hey, if DA is there, I'm definitely interested. ;)

I would like to hit the 5150 group ride for a while though, it was a LOT of fun last time.

I have permission from the "boss" to take the whole day for a ride, and have no clue where I am going to be.

CBRWorld is having one starting up at SF

5150 is taking off from the E-Bay

Jack is talking about the Other ride

This is going to be the first time I have ever taken my bike out for the purpose of finding twisties, so I have to make sure the pace is not too fast. I have been reading all the HW 9 stuff, and have a bigger dose of respect for the road than I had before.

Steve You have ridden with the CBR crowd, and 5150 does it matter which one I chose?

Crashing on the first ride will cause the "boss" to go non-linear

Hey sasquatch... regarding this weekend's rides:

5150: primarily surface streets, freeways... I expect stunting

CBRworld: probalby a good quick-paced ride through Marin... always good fun w/ them!

JTT's "other" ride: more laid back and good for newbies

I'm not entirely sure where you'll find me. :D

This concludes theSteveCo's review of the weekends rides. You may now feel free to move about the Bay Area.

OK, here it is. The anti-ride. (j/k)

It's gonna be super laid back but if you want to take off a little go ahead. We'll catch up after a couple of minutes. We're gonna see Mountains, trees, lakes, freeways, beaches, little towns, big citys, farm land and other riders on this trip. But what we won't see is any cops. (But it won't matter cause we're gonna be laid back. You know what I mean?) Then after we're gonna meet Weasel and his girl in Campbell to celebrate St. Pattys Day.

Here is a detailed list of directions and a map. (One of the roads doesn't show up on the map but it's there. I prommise.)

85 to Cottle Rd
Left on Santa Teresa Blvd.
Right on Bailey Ave
Left on McKean Rd
McDean turns into Uvas Rd
(Stop at Lake Parking lot)
Right on Watsonville Rd
Right on Hecker Pass Rd
Hecker tuns into E Lake Ave
(Stop somewhere in Watsonville)
Left on Porter Dr then
right onto W Riverside Dr
Right onto Hwy 1
(Exit Rio Del Mar Blvd and stop at beach in Aptos)
Get back on 1
Exit Porter St and turn right
(Stop in Soquel)
Porter turns into Soquel/San Jose Rd
Take all the way up.
Turn left onto Summit
Turn right onto 17
Head to Campbell for some celebrating

And here is the map

Thanks steve. You're right on the money.:D

BTW, this is a suggestion. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Oh, also I don't know S. San Jose that well so we need a meeting spot.

I'm in. Sorry JTT. I've actually been working today. Haven't been able to peek at the board much. Found WatchCat, but haven't loaded it yet. :laughing

Don't forget on Saturday, the North Bay trek to the Holy Grail of motorcycle roads, Skaggs Springs Road!

http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=801

Taking a look at some of the people coming, I expect a good spread of abilities. I hope to get a few more takers before the weekend gets here. It's a longer ride, but you won't regret it!

weather.com shows partly cloudy... If it's laid back, I'll probably go... Still have 400mi to go on break in...

Last time I did a similar route, except we incorporated Metcalf road into it.

Working our way to 152, I think we then did the following roads:

Mt. Madonna Road
Brown Valley Road
Eureka Canyon Road
Highland Way
Summit Road

and back to Highway 17. Big fun, relaxed pace on tight, bumpy, but fun roads.

Have you had the chance to explore some of those yet?

Hey Crash... no disrespect, but I'm ducking your ride. Why? 'Cause my ass will be too sore - I'm not used to the Gixxer yet. If the Kawi was running I'd be there, though. I'm dying to hit some of those roads up north!

MrCrash

Steve,

Understandable. The ride itself won't be too bad, as it's comprised almost completely of twisties, I'm under the impression that you move around quite a bit on your bike when you ride. Hell, you had to on the Kawasaki to get any sort of ground clearance on it.

What will likely get you is the ride back home, if it finishes late enough in the day then backroads won't really be an option, and you'll be looking at a ~50 mile highway trek just back to the Golden Gate bridge.

I've done 300-350 miles of twisties on GSXRs without problems. However, 10 miles of freeway time has me wondering if those are still my hands connected to my arms, because it sure as hell doesn't feel like them. Attempting to use the turn signals in that state is more of a ham fisted smoosh than a flicking of the switch.

One of the coolest things I experience street riding is seeing the looks on friends faces after taking them on a road that is new and incredible to them. The speechless expressions after friends first travel Skaggs or roads similar to it just make my day.

Hope you make it out eventually if I can't get you to reconsider the weekend trip!

Hey! You guys are posting about the wrong ride on the wrong thread. :p Err, well you know what I mean.

But I would like to do that ride sometime with ya Crash but Saturdays aren't good for me. Maybe one of these days you can take us up there on a Sunday. :D We (at BARF) were talking about doing a Skaggs ride one of these days when the weather is better.

... but this thread is about JTT's ride! :p

Hm, I'm not sure what prompted Steve to comment on the Saturday ride proposal on this thread, all I did was provide options to JTT's original route to give him more ideas (as per his request)! Steve must have had something funny to drink last night :)

Looks like Saturdays aren't the best choice for a few people here. After hearing about the negative police attention to sport riders in Marin on Sundays, I do my best to avoid it then. Even so, the route I chose minimizes time spent on "major" Marin county sport riding roads. I've seen Highway 1 staked out in a few different places, and almost fell victim to a blockade + Cessna police plane deal myself years ago.

I'll be more than happy to do it one Sunday later on this year. More daylight = more roads, or more rest stops to allow the less experienced riders to go the full distance of the ride. Once Daylight Savings Time comes into effect, we can talk more about it!

Last time I did those roads was last fall on an Aprilia Falco. They were pretty torn up back then also. I withhold from using the term "sucks" as I try to ride every road for what it is.

If the road is better suited for a dirt bike, I try to ride the bike like one, regardless of what I'm on! Elbows out, standing on the pegs, back braking into corners so as to not load the front over pavement imperfections, gassing out while sometimes pushing the bike beneath me to get all my weight on the outside peg - it all makes for a great ride, but in a different way!

In any case, it's a suggestion, despite your perception of "suckage" it sounds like you had a good time as well. Will the rest of the group have a similar attitude? I don't know, I'd say there's only one way to find out!

ya i had fun on eureka, it makes u feel like ur the only one who travels that road, until u hit the backside and see all the peddlers on the road. then u have to watch out for them coming up through summit and nailing u with their jettas with bikes loaded on top and behind. its kinda like a wooded mines road in the sense that theres no lines or dividers.

OK. Looks like rain on Sunday. Watch this thread to keep updated.

If it is nice, ride is on. If it's raining there will be a mid day get together at Starbux on Bascome and Hamilton avenues in Campbell. We'll hang for a couple of hours then head for the Campbell St. Pat's day fest.

Meeting time is 10:00 if the ride is on or 12:00 if it's cancelled. I will be bringing my bike either way since it's all I have. Others will be too. If you can bring it. It's just water and you won't be riding hard on city streets.

Again, watch this thread for updates.

Hey, if you smear yourself all over 280 (or any other freeway) don't blame me.

On second thought maybe you should bring the truck. I mean this is a BARF meet. Someone will be going down.

Raining R!, sorry. Plan B in effect. Meet at the starbux on Bascome/Hamilton for coffee. I'll be there between 11:30 and 12:00. Here is a map. It's right where the O is in Hamilton on the map. When you're at the intersection it's easier to look for the Blockbuster. Just go into that parking lot.

C U there.:D
