Just my opinion:
If you have anything less than a Pitbull, Rot, Lab, Pyrenees, Shepard, or basically anything that can't kill another animal bigger than a rabbit... please keep your manhood and pass off your dog as being owned by your girlfriend or wife.

my dog was not allowed our of the yard for 30 days and i had to pay the fees for the other dog ear to be cleaned up.
the pitbull was out wandering the street and my dog saw the pitbull and took off out the window after it.

I know what you mean...
Mai're (Rott mix) is only about 55 pounds, but she is 10 times tougher then Corinne.
But she always attacks out of defense. She has been in a couple of scuffles in parks and such, and she was always the victim, and always came hurt less. And, I can easily pull her off and pick her up before it gets worse (worse fight left the other dog with about a 1" shallow gash, that was it).

that guy no longer talks to us. and my dalmation is still mean as all hell and 16 That is a real shame. On one side, I am happy to hear that for once, the Pit wasn't the one that took the fall. On the other, it was thier fault for the pup being loose. I have been there as a kid, except my girl did all the damage. Neika was an Akita a friend gave us because she wasn't show quality (her fur was too long). She wondered out and said hello to another local pup (something real small) on a leash, but the other dog bit Neika.
Neika unleashed hell, sad memories.

Yes, people do kill thier dogs because they ruin thier garden. And people also do it because they have a funy look.

Thanks everyone. the Legend of Jaws goes like this...
Owner is young, 20, married with a baby. he first had Jaws, then he mated his Other pitbull, which he gave away too, with his cousin's female. thus TUX was born.
i planed on having the pick of the litter from JAWS & TUX, once she grew up. the kid couldnt handle all his responsibilities, so I adopted Tux at 6weeks. the plan was to still mate the two doggs. months go by & when visiting Tux's Momma's yard, to check out HER & JAWS' pupps... i found out daddy JAWS had been put down. i was definally pissed off, to day the least. i would have taking him in. Jaws was just too much to loose. :rose
the reason i adopted Tux was the same. she was messing up the garden, had to go.

If you killed the dog because of the garden, you are a major asshole.
Give up gardening, you dick! What- you think the dog isn't going to be a dog or something? So the garden got dug up. Big fucking deal! You never should have had the dog in the first place.
If you decided to not have the dog around anymore, your responsibilty is to find the dog another home. Not kill it because it dug up your fucking tomato plants. It happens to be a living thing!
Maybe you should hold a mirror under your nose and see if it fogs up. Check for a pulse while you're at it.
You shouldn't be allowed to have a fucking plant. Would you kill that because a little dirt got on the countertop?

Pitbulls are a very tough breed to handle, these dogs were meant to fight and kill other dogs, with the tenacity of terriers built right into them. This animal is easier to make mean than to make nice. Are you on crack? They have tendancies to be mean to other dogs, only. And, in almost all cases, they can be trained to behave very well around the same dogs that they were breed to attack.
Pits are extremely friendly dogs, especially to humans, that are very eager to please. You can usually beat them, starve them, and totally abuse them, and they will still love you. Though, by that time, they will typically be ready to rip the head off of any other animal that they see, and that is what they were breed for (minus the poor treatment).
Of course, since the fad seems to be to tie a chain that could sink an air craft carrier, tie them to a tire in the backyard, and never give them attention, you see a lot of neglect and ill will to other animals. Total abuse is what it is, and it makes life hard on teh responsible caring people who love and respect all dogs, especially Pits for what they are.
The last time my Pit attacked another dog, was in protection of my wife. That is the only time ever that has happened. When at the dog park, she is the one that always gets attacked, which is why I stopped going. I got tired of peoples pups attacking my little girls when they just want to have fun. Fortunately, my two girls love to play non stop with each other (or with me and my wife), and do just fine without other playmates.
Not like they have room to complain. Corinne (Pit) sleeps between my wife and I every night. Mai're (Rotty mix) sleeps anywhere in the rooom she feels like at the time. The hard part is convincing Corinne to get out of bed in the morning, or to get her off your lap when you need to do something.
By the way, Corinne was found when the police raided a dog fighting ring a while ago. She was found in a room full of other dead fighting dogs, and it was believed she was there as a bait dog. She was only 20 pounds, and severely ill. I think she was taken from a home to be put into that situation. My wife saw her, and instantly fell in love with her (when she ran up to my wife to give her a hug, though she could barely walk) while treating at the hospital where my wife used to work. She is now up to her full weight of about 45 pounds, and the perfect example of the majority of all Pits I have been around (I have spent a decent amount of time working at an animal hospital, and being around shelters).

Dude, I'm a VERY proud pitbull owner, who is in the works of training my dog at 9 mos. I don't see how anyone could translate the quote at the top with the one at the bottom. You mention them being tough to handle, meant to kill dogs (true), and easy to make mean. Sounds to me like you are bragging about how they are the tough manly big dick dogs that all the backyard breeders sell them for, as opposed to a person who actually loves them. Why else would you try to make them sound all tough, obviously not to try and sell the ignorant public on how freindly they really are.
And, since you are running off at the sight of criticism, I can see I hurt your ego, so maybe that Pit is your big dick dog. I feel bad for it if that is the case.
I will stick with my killer Corinne:

Not necessarily...their disposition depends on the breeding. If you breed 2 pits with low prey drive...most likely the pups will too. Unfortunately, most tough guys can't have a wuss for a pit...so sad.

My business has a good reputation, thank you very much.
I was coming from the position of sticking up for the animal. Killing a dog because it dug a hole in the ground is ludicrous. Leaving the dog unattended with a stupid fucking rap music chain around it's neck shows that someone is a moron. The animal's life obviously means a whole lot less to you than some others. Your "personal response" reflects poorly on you. You mention putting the dog down like it means nothing. I'd rather not work on the bike of someone who values living things so little.
Bring your ride to the dealer. Good luck.

By the number of Dogs in Shelters. Pit Bulls are extremly popular in the Bay Area. One would need to travel hundred miles or more to find other breeds. Popularity drops off 200 miles out only a occasional PitBull mix are in Shelters.
What can one make of that ? One thing for sure Pit Bull Breeders are cranking them out in record numbers.
Not related to Pit Bulls but Dogs in General. New Young families shouldn't own a Dog. Wait until kids get older. Dogs aren't perfect gentleman all the time. Can see what am getting at.. It's a set up and the Dog loses.

Maybe you are translating my post so harshly (and reading into it falsely) because you're so used to defending pitbulls. I even stated in a post earlier how I appreciate the link you have posted in your signature. Since you want to battle me, even though we are on the same page, that's your problem. Too bad I agree with your opinion on pitbull owning 100% and you still have a chip on your shoulder and a stick up your ass to realize there are some people who like this type of dog, besides your uptight defensive ass, for other reasons (highly intelligent, loving, etc.) regardless of their fighting background.
I really like the site you have in your signature, and it taught me a ton. Pity that you can't see that some people seek to be responsible owners. Or at least, you are blinded by constantly defending your reasons for ownership (which is the same as mine).
It's people like YOU, who, before asking what others meant in a post would rather shoot their mouth off in defense, that make the frequented areas on BARF a lame place to be. I'm outta here... I've unsubscribed to this thread. Have fun knocking off people who agree with you, asshole. BTW, I didn't buy my pit, he was a rescue from the shelter with a history of beatdowns. Like I said, shut your hole before spouting off. Then think a little more, how about that? You love them, you defend them, and you still say stupid shit about them. Think about what you are saying, then we will be on the same page.
I like how BARF is a crap whole, because of people like me. I guess if I posted on whatever sites you post on, then they will suck too huh?

"This animal is easier to make mean than to make nice." It sounds like you are saying stupid shit about them, because that is how it sounds. You can say you love them and are on the same side all you want. But when the words you use sound like you are trying to bill them as bad dogs, it doesn't matter what you say.
Saying they are tough to handle, easy to make mean, and breed to fight (again, the last being true) doesn't sound anything like the paragraph you quoted from BADRAP.
BADRAP gives a basic history of the breed, and ways to handle it. You just said they are dog killers, tenacious, and easy to make mean. You didn't say who they are mean against, or that they are often not agressive against dogs, or that they are easy to train.
Keep still may have meant "don't judge", but why didn't you just say that? That isn't how it was read, so that isn't what your message is. If you can't make your message right, then it won't be taken right by the ignorant public who sees bully breeds as dangerous, and a meanace.
By the way, I did go back and look through some of your posts. First you say they are real dogs, and anything not capable of killing something like a rabbit need not apply. Hmmm, that sounds real friendly. Then you say they are being trained to attack humans. Soon later, you get all friendly about them and how they are great and nice. You said recently that they are tough to handle, but before you said you puo is easy to manage, and very obidient.
So, which side are you on? You flip flop back and forth on how you feel about them based on the current discussion.

One day Satan needed an animal to protect the gates of hell. From the molten depths of the underworld, and with all the ferocity of the most deadliest of cursed beasts, he formed... the pitbull.
Here is a true killer. He brings me human heads on a daily basis and I praise him with a crack over the head with a shovel. I bathe him in blood so he can get used to it, and I inject him with 1000cc's of steroids weekly. I am sooooo happy that these dogs are killers and are impossible to tame. Might as well take advantage of their instinct and make them the killers they were meant to be. :p

the reason i adopted Tux was the same. she was messing up the garden, had to go.

Racercutie- were you at Sears Point, during the AMA races last year, with your dogs? I met a woman with 2 beautiful Pitts.
Seeing those Pitts just brings a tear to my eyes. I want to get my boy a companion, but I'm not ready to go through the hell that he put me through when he was a pup.
This is Diablo. He's a Certified Therapy Dog. He has a volunteer job working with Mentally Challanged Adults.

You really should get another dog. It took us 8 years to finally get a companion for Paco. Make sure they're the opposite sex though as they get along better. It's great to see them play together - they love tug-o-war - and annoy each other. They're so funny. Such different personalities.

It has been weighing on my mind, (the guilt of not having a companion for Diablo).
I've always had two dogs. My last two were BEAUTIFUL White English Bull Terriers. I loved them to death. The last one died about 2 years ago (@ 15 1/2 years!), so Diablo spent his 1st 5 years with her.
I plan on getting a girl- because I made the mistake of having a Mother/Daughter Bull Terrier combo- BAD MOVE!!!!!
I will always have opposite sexes from now on.

Well hell, go to the shelter! There are tons of unwanted pit bulls, pit mixes that have been way overbred and neglected. Most are young pups. (the 10-12 month adolescent/misbehaved age).
We got our two dogs from the shelter.
When we picked up the second one, they wanted us to bring our dog and watch them play together so there wasn't any aggressive tendencies.
We got lucky with the second dog. She's follows me around the house and throws herself down so she can have her belly rubbed. She's really sweet and models after our other dog (she's learned tricks that he does simply by watching him.

Niiiiiccceee....
That's exactly what I did: I went and out and got a companion for my Dalmatian, and now they are siblings for life (I got him at an estimated 6-8 months... I figure he's about 9 or so now).
Here's one of those unwanted pits: after the mange was ridded of, the dew claws were chopped, and nice and neutered the way I intended. He also had some weight to gain as he was a bit on the skinny side when I got him. He's an awesome dog, just a handful since he is a puppy, but as big, heavy and strong as they come. Got some pics from today at the Fremont Dog Park. Enjoy! :teeth

:rose
the reason i adopted Tux was the same. she was messing up the garden, had to go.
ps: thanks everyone who joined the bandwagon against me before finding out more information. your all some bitches.
Sounds like some irresponsible breeding, IMO.
And yes, you should have posted all this info beforehand.

well, we'll be looking into getting a new pup for our new place.
i have two young kids and want something good with kids.
wishlist: 1. dalmation(grew up with them), 2. an italian breed don't know the name, but they're very light brown, almost grey with very light and bright blue eyes.
if we go with something small it would be a low and long weiner dog :teeth
EDIT: if anyone has pups please pm me. i'll be taking the kids over to the animal shelter soon to scope out the right pup, too.

All the pits I've been around have been very sweet to people. They are horrible with other dogs or animals though. Once they hit sexual maturity even siblings fight.
Quite sad that they are among the dogs boys buy to seem tough. When dogs become fashion accessories they are treated like inanimate objects that are discarded on a whim like last seaon's fashions.
Then you get the bitches like Paris Hilton that buy the small dogs then forget where they left them when they pass out at parties...
