Do you need a gun while driving in Oakland?

I'm trying to figure out how the south bay riders forum can be used as a concealed weapon.
 
I've read that's an initiation into one of many gangs, rear end someone and shoot the driver if they stop. As idiotic as it sounds, I can see how it works.

That sounds like the "if you flash your headlights at gang members they murder you as an initiation" myth. I dunno if I'd believe that.

On another note:
Honestly I don't see how a CCW would have really helped this situation. If the guy was a trained sharp shooter and fast drawer, he still would have had to out-shoot two guys. And your holstered, unloaded gun with no mag in it with safety on isn't going to do a lot in a situation where a guy keeps a loaded gun in his waistband.
 
Some on here will call it living in fear, but I just don't go to Oakland. I consider it a lost city, and no one seems to be able to do anything about it.

I know Ernie lived in Oakland since they first found gold in California and every morning the gangsters plant flowers in his yard and the crack dealers bring the paper up to his stoop and when he lived in SF he was murdered three times in one afternoon, and the two other people who like it there will chime in. Maybe it's a reporting bias from the media and just a noisy minority, but all you hear about Oakland is how shitty it is. No thanks :x

Haha where do you come up with this stuff? Why would someone with a ccw keep the gun unloaded? And yes, someone with minimal training might be able to outshoot two dipshits on the street. Even if they aren't a quick draw, maybe they have their hand on their weapon when getting out of the car late at night in oakland when theyre rear ended on fairly empty streets. Or at least scare off their attackers and possibly save their life.

Disagree. That area looks mostly OK, but it's not really. It butts up against some real nastiness to the South. Though it is slowly getting better, I remember driving down MLK back in the day and the locals would be picnicking on stripped out cars.:laughing Had it been legal, I certainly would have been packing when I lived there.
 
Not going to sully the RIP thread, but I tuned into the news last night mid-report and saw a CHP admonishing all of us that we MUST stay at the scene of an accident no matter what.

This morning, with the other thread, and this, I found out what.

OMG.
 
It would be nice to CCW in any town, criminals aren't picky about where they victimize folks.
I wouldn't conceal carry everyplace, but it would bring peace of mind if I was out late traveling somewhere.
I've worn my safety belt or helmet for ages & haven't needed to use them, I suspect that CCW may be the same.
