yes I know I'm a one trick pony, Sailormoon, bagpipes and funky old vehicles.
so my dead BFF's dad and widow have his GMC panel van and it needs to go or be turned into a running vehicle. it has the sort of original in line six but hasn't been started in at least 4 years.

note it has the push the button on the floor to start thingy going on. when my BFF let me drive it when I pushed down on the pedal to start it the pedal jumped on to the bench seat

looks kinda like this

so I got the means to resto mod this thing but not the inclination. Got other funky old vehicles that need to be returned to glory, but it is a connect to my BFF so seeing it turn out as more than scrap is desirable.

Don't have much in the way of advice, but what a cool wagon. Been looking at a 58-59 Apache... not sure I could handle a full restoration but if I had the space I'd for sure attempt it.

Infinitely better project than the Capri. Please don't take offense.

sell it. if it's even remotely as complete as the one pictured someone will buy it and at least let it sit in their custody for years "i'm going to restore it someday" untill it finally falls into the hands of someone that actually will... of course they'll probably put an LS in it, yawn, but at least it'll live on with a donor heart

that's an unusual vehicle.

my issue is that I can buy it from the widow but she'll want more than it's worth. my bff's pa just needs it gone. it's probably not too far from running but getting people to work on old vehicles is difficult: they're expensive if they know what they're doing and cost even more if they don't.

I know reliable trustworthy people who will work on it for you, but it seems like you need to sort out the Widow issue before anything else. No point spending time/effort/money getting it running if she's going to wreck the investment.

Dude, I'm quoting this for posterity and truthiness :gsxrgrl

If it runs, drive it to the next Good Guys or the next Dream Machines .
If not trailer it . It will sell .

Tux, I'd be interested in it.

Sorry tux, i just dont think you can.be trusted NOT to put some fucked up sailor moon shit on the side of that cool truck...

Someone please save it!

:laughing

Offer to mothball it until she's ready to sell. Project you dont really want are just anchors, and the general public is t going to pay the Emotionally Attached fee

Tux... your pic is of a Chevy Panel.
Pic's available of GMC???
Is truck a 1/2T, 3/4T, or 1T? Probably not a 1T as those have a real long wheelbase and rare. I'm going to guess an say it's probably a 1/2T Model 100.

1/2T models also used an enclosed driveshaft (Torque tube). 3/4T and up were open drive lines.

3 speed tranny (column shift), or 4 speed (floor shift)?

What engine? 228CI-6 was base engine, but there was a 248CI, and a 270CI in the big trucks.

Rear doors would be either "clam shell" or "barn door" style.

Panels typically did not have rear seats, front seats would be two individual seats or a bench type with a 60/40 split to fold forward to access the cargo area.

GMC engines are different than the Chevy's of the same era. Also, GMC's hood, finders, grill, and bumper are different from the Chevy's.

Electric's are 6V unless converted to 12V. Heaters and radios were options.

Again, any pics available and location of truck.

Ha, ha... geeezzzzz kids today. Once the engine starts ya got to take yer foot off the "Starter pedal" so the starter gear will release from the flywheel. :afm199

I'll start the bidding at $52.00 and 52 bottles of beer.

I'm confused.

What are you asking of us?
Should you restore it?
Should you sell it?
Should you retire it and have it crushed?

From the two pictures you posted I would be willing to offer $5000 cash TODAY! (you can keep the beer bottle)

:teeth
